My question is " Why are the videos or pictures of Ogopogo, Loch Ness monster or UFO always blurry, never clear, hard to see? " Darn, I believe in UFO too. I want to see a true picture. Is it so hard to ask ? LOL !!
The same can be said of video cameras at banks, streets, etc... when trying to identify bank robbers or child kidnappers. We can send men to the moon but can't get good video footage here on earth.

Forgot to answer your question. I think they are logs. I have seen them before on the lake.

Wouldn't you think that if you thought you had captured the ogopogo on film...you'd keep your camera rolling for more than a few seconds?? :137:

What's it called when two currents hit one another and form patterns on the surface of a body of water. Pretty sure it's that.

Okay, here's the inside scoop:

The camera
Yes, it was taken with an an older camera, 4 megapixels, not a huge memory card, tiny viewfinder but decent zoom and does everything it was intended for (going out and taking some still shots.) It has an obviously inferior video mode and as discovered the focus cannot keep up when zooming in and out, but it was hard to tell if it was focusing during shooting in the small viewfinder. The reason it was panned out then zoomed in was to show there were no boats. It was also filmed from roughly a mile away and the farther from an object, the more grainy the picture. Also, the more one is zoomed in, the harder it is to keep an image steady. As there wasn't a lot of memory in the camera's card, the decision was made to stop shooting and start again if something more evidential happened as opposed to running out of room on the card and have something happen.

The analysis
Ogopogo? Most likely not, as Ogopogo doesn't doesn't swim undulating from side to side like most every other longfish, eel or watersnake on the planet and would have it's head above water showing off his grin and big red tongue like the one at City Park. Honestly, someone could discover a 40 ft. long eel here and people would figure that if they can find a 40 ft. long eel they must be able to find the Ogopogo.

Logs? When first seen, the left object had an obvious bend of about 45 degrees which is visible on the still shot on Global's web page and is slightly visible at the beginning of the video. the surface of the lake was relatively calm so wouldn't bend an image like that, and 30-40 ft logs generally don't have a 45 degree bend in them. The object on the right starts getting slightly crooked at the end of the video and got even more crooked after filming stopped. Logs generally keep their shape.

A sandbar or water flowing over logs stuck on a sandbar? All one has to do is pick an image on the shore like the gazebo and see where the objects are in relation to it at the beginning and the end of the video. They actually move a fair amount over 30 seconds. Sandbars or logs stuck on sandbars don't move like that. The objects kept moving to the left until disappearing behind the trees.

Eel-like creatures? Possibly, there are new species still being discovered like the coelacanth, a fish thought to have gone extinct 65 million years ago but was caught in 1938 and has been found in other places since, so with the size and depth of the lake, it's possible there are still undiscovered species here as well. Why have no carcasses been found? Besides the dead fish found in the creeks during spawning season, very few of the many thousands of fish including huge sturgeon are ever found as well. The lack of obvious swimming movement is suspect, although it's not uncommon for fish to bask virtually motionless just beneath the surface.

Sturgeon? Possibly, but the shapes look way more snake-like than a sturgeon. Regardless, seeing as the record sturgeon is under 12 ft long, two 30-40 ft ones would still be newsworthy

Underwater currents? There is a theory that two different temperatures of water flowing over eachother will cause these dark shapes. There are always different temperatures of water flowing over eachother in the whole lake as anyone who has dived more than 15 feet can contest. In the winter, the colder layer would be even closer to the surface so you'd figure the whole lake would look likewise. The average person's experience with seeing 2 different temperatures meeting would be when adding hot water to a cooling tub, in which case the result probably doesn't consist of dark, worm-like images on a smaller scale, although on a grander scale it might look more prominent.

Standing wave? Possibly, but they're moving, not standing. Another possibility is a seiche wave, but they usually occur with winds or seismic movement. Google "making standing waves" and you'll see in a controlled environment they look much different than the video, but again perhaps in a lake the result wouldn't look the same as in a lab.

The interview
Once the video was downloaded and analyzed, it was thought to be unusual enough that CHBC might be interested. After being asked for an interview, the story came out as having actual proof and evidence that ogopogo exists, which was completely untrue. Global News posted an apology on their website, but by then the horse was out and at full gallop. The Vancouver sun picked up the story, adding their own BS and claiming they had the interview, when in fact there was never any communication with them until they were contacted about how misquoting someone causing defamation of character isn't a good idea. This is why if you click on the link at the beginning of this thread and then click on "Vancouver Sun," the story has been pulled.

The only source that got it right was the Discovery Channel, who stated "even the man who shot the video doesn't know what it is." Now there are over 600,000 hits on youtube and 43 articles on the internet about this, most getting their information from the interview with the Vancouver Sun, which never happened.

As a result of all of this, there's a man who analyzed the video and says he doesn't know what it is, being demeaned, belittled, and called every name in the book on dozens of websites by hundreds of people who haven't analyzed the video but claim they know for sure what it is.

At least there have been many posts by people who have superior cameras and see this all the time, so once they post more video to be examined more conclusions can be made.

Your analysis is spurious. The standing wave suggested is another type of seiche wave that would occur with turnover (http://www.onthelake.net/fishing/turnover.htm ) where it was relatively vigorous. At some locations, water layers will move past each other, and either a standing wave will occur if the densimetric Froude number ( http://www.tpub.com/content/USACETechni ... 470004.htm ) of about 1 is achieved whereupon a standing wave, or rotational motion would occur. I see these things all over the place. Also, similar "Lake Monsters" have been spotted in 36 Lakes in BC, and many more around the world (e.g. google "Cressie" the lake monster in Crescent Lake, Newfoundland). Ogopogo and the rest are just the results of water physics.

The very idea that some have that Ogopogo is some sort of ancient, undiscovered life form underscores the vast ignorance the most have about the world they live in. The Okanagan Valley itself is a relatively young feature, caused by 40-50 million year old rifting (spreading). The rifting caused crustal thinning that allowed magma to pierce the crust, and resulted in the various volcanic features in the area of that age and younger (Mt. Bouncherie, and later Layer Cake Mountain, etc.). In the intervening time, there have been numerous glacial episodes during the Pleistocene Ice Age - some glacial sediments are even found UNDER a lava deposit in the new Westside interchange area. Glaciations were about 2 km thick in the present downtown region, and thicker on the then lake bottom - how the heck was something supposed to survive down there????

With the poor framework of knowledge that most people possess, no wonder biblical flood proponents seem to "make sense" to so many people. It's worrying to me that the population knows so little.

Finally, something more than "it's a f###ing log a**hole!" Useful information, but to think that because most people don't know "The Okanagan Valley itself is a relatively young feature, caused by 40-50 million year old rifting (spreading). Thanks for probably the best response I've seen on the many venom-spewing forums on the topic as the whole thing was about finding an answer, not making a claim as was twisted by the media, but vast ignorance for that? Lighten up Spock. "It's a f###ing log a##hole!" Now THAT'S vast ignorance!

The man who shot the video did so roughly a mile away....I would think that if you took a video of any number of things from a mile away, you would have a tough time determining what it was.

Considering that there is an famous story involving Ogopogo in Okanagan Lake, posting a video of someting happening in the lake from a mile away and simply claiming not to know what it was would lead to reasonable people assuming that you are referring to Ogopogo and that you are presenting evidence of its existence.

I'm sure if the same person who shot the video filmed a similar video of something rustling in the grass from a mile away, they wouldn't post that video on youtube, as it wouldn't have the same reaction.

It seems like the person who shot the video somehow became offended that people made this connection.
