Adrian Dix MUST Immediately Fire NDP Candidate in Kelowna-Mission

VANCOUVER – BC Liberal MLA Mary Polak is demanding NDP Leader Adrian Dix immediately fire NDP candidate Dayleen Van Ryswyk in Kelowna-Mission.

“Ms. Van Ryswyk has made unacceptable and hateful statements against First Nations and French speaking Canadians. There is no place in British Columbia for that type of language,” said Polak. “Adrian Dix should immediately terminate her nomination.”

On the Castanet community blog, Ms. Van Ryswyk has made a number of comments that are clearly unacceptable to British Columbians.

In a discussion thread titled ‘Strip them of the Status Card,’ Ms. Ryswyk wrote:

“It’s not the status cards, it’s the fact that we have been paying out of the nose for generations for something that isn’t our doing. If their ancestors sold out too cheap it’s not my fault and i shouldn’t have to be paying for any mistake or whatever you want to call it from MY hard earned money.”

“It’s time our generation stopped paying for the mistakes of the past…let us all be one people…THE SAME.. race, creed colour or gender shouldn’t matter anymore in this day and age…enough is enough already.” (sic)

“The government is nothing more than a big black hole that feeds off the working man, sucking his last penny from his hand so they can give it away freely or lose it stupidly on things like fast ferries and about a zillion other stupid things.”

“In my opinion, we have paid our debt…a thousand fold..it’s time to move on, heal and grow. If the native people are to be the proud nation they keep talking about, then stand on your two feet and hold your heads high. There are a lot of things to be proud of, stop dwelling on the past. Because like the economy…the gravy train bubble will eventually burst too.” (sic)

“Seems the only group of people universally hated around the world other than the Americans are the french and FRENCH CANADIANS…the bigots are the french and not us….” (sic)

“I’m getting so sick of having french stuffed down my throat…this isn’t Quebec…it’s western Canada…we speak english here….why are we forced to have it at our western Canadian hosted Olympics?” (sic)

“Clearly, these remarks are not becoming a potential member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia,” said Polak. “Adrian Dix should never have signed her nomination papers with these kinds of beliefs, but now that he has, he has no choice but to immediately fire her.”

BREAKING: She resigned a few minutes ago. She is no longer a candidate.

Interesting.

First Facebook, now forums. Using one's actual name and/or openly identifying oneself must be done with caution on a forum like this.

It is pretty common for politicians to use their real names, as they are basically always campaigning.

With beliefs like that you would think that she'd be running for the Conservatives.

Conservative candidate Mike McLoughlin didn't. He posted under a different name until he got called on it.

it is pretty amusing the liberals searched castanet forums from a feburary 2009 comment made by this candidate (former according to Nebula).

meanwhile the liberals are caught trying to influence city council decision making in surrey but absolutely nothing happens to Coleman, gordon campbell caught driving drunk but didnt resign, clark pandering to east asian community with an awards show, government employees, pam martin, politicking on the taxpayer dime but didnt resign, and on and on..

the only real fact is that kelowna mission is a solid liberal riding so Van Ryswyk wasnt going to be a factor anyway.

I doubt that the Liberals went hunting for some small tidbit to make the NDP look bad in a riding they likely have no problem winning.

More likely it was simply a poster that was aware of the comments and let the right people know. Just a hunch though. In the game of politics outing a rival on day one definitely looks bad on the NDP and they have to go the route they did and have the person leave. 8 months from now they put out an apology.

Sadly Dix should have been using this tactic before on some of his other party members that were misbehaving to show a leader that won't allow malfeasance. Instead he makes an example of the candidate that really didn't matter and can be used as cannon fodder.

It's all about appearances.

Is this the same Dayleen who had that "poor me" sulk-fest over the Ski2Sea?
