Looks like déja vu.
At that exact spot, there's no road, no way to park on the side of the road, and a high fence separates the highway from the grass. Me suspects another cigarette thrown out a window.

So is that fire getting bigger? It looks like the column of smoke is much larger than when I noticed this about 1/2 hr ago!

*bleep* for the article being accurate... someone should take some geography classes.. Trepanier road is like 2km further down the road.
The blaze is burning across the highway from the Tourist Information Centre where the highway intersects with Trepanier Road.

Just got home on Trepanier. The planes are flying over our house. They put retardant just south of the house above that fire. Aircraft is working it and it is growing. Winds are light.

I live near that spot and I just came past there. It starts too far off the connector for a cigarette to be responsible. It seems to be burning quite aggressively considering it just started and there is a slight wind. On the bright side, they are already setting up to fight it.

...is it just me, or does there seem to be a disproportionate number of wildfires on the west side?...good luck to the crews in getting a handle on this quickly...

Is it still burning? The wind is picking up significantly here in Smith Creek.

There are alot of fires on the Westside, because the forest floors are about 3 ft deep with fuel. Notice there are no controlled burns being done ever, except for the Rose Valley area a few years ago

...that's the same anywhere else in the valley, and/or province...just seems there's a rather one-sided amount occuring of late on the west side of the lake...

...well, let's hope it doesn't...
...once again, although early in this most recent fire, hats off to Trevor Rockliffe for being able to provide live onsite coverage...anyone remotely thinking of venturing out to rubberneck - do yourself, and those trying to deal with the fire and traffic a favour - and watch from the comfort of home...great job Trevor/Castanet...

Re: Hwy 97c fire
Once again we have several 100 people people lined up close by watching. People lets get out of there so you are not impeding our fire crews and aircraft. Yes people close by impede directions for air tankers and how they drop. This is not a spectator sport and not a place for the public within a couple of Km from the incident.
