Boonstock

Post by twobits »

The grey area grapevine says Boonstock has declared bankruptcy and won't be back without a financial saviour. Big surprise.
Anyone else heard anything?
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

I could care less about their situation, for as long as they pay their RCMP bill and what they owe to the community.

If they do declare Bankruptcy then those bills will go unpaid.

The attached has nothing to do with bankruptcy per se, but does show some legal action. It also does not mean that Boonstock is at fault with regard to the action. If someone wants to spend $6, they can read all about it.

I am hoping that 2014 was at least a break even event for them, learn from the mistakes, and make 2015 even better.
Given the haphazard (dis)organisation last year and the high attendance, it tells me that a strong demand exists for this type of event.

My thoughts are that something would have been announced already if there was going to be a show. It's sad really. Yet another one and done for Penticton.

How many years did it run in Alberta with a profit?

I don't know anything about their profits but it was there for about 9-10 years I believe.

Money wasn't a problem in Alberta, the fest was held less than a half hour drive from Edmonton so there was a huge customer base to draw from and attendance approached 14 to 15 thousand in the final years there. Trouble was is was held in Gibbons, a town of about 3000 that just found the thing overwhelming as the fest grew and grew. It got to the point where Boonstock's applications to continue there were refused by local civic government.

Whats goonstock?

Cant blame the festival for a grown adult from doing bad drugs.

RCMP force their services upon them and over bill.

I heard from a person that claims to know the Boonstock guy that there will not be a Boonstock this year. He wants to wait a year for things to get dealt with and settle down, then next year have a Country & Western Boonstock to make the older people happy. Then back to the original.

Take it for what it's worth, I can't verify any of it.

That's a good idea. Have a country festival to please the truth. Maybe they can resurrect Johnny Cash.
Because clearly the genre of music defines the integrity of the promoter.

That brings up the same old argument, people pushing the "just let them have their fun" attitude when it's been shown time and time again that this attracts that small but ever present percentage who just screw things up. Acceptable losses ?

This will end up being about the money. If he doesn't pay his bills he's pretty much screwed as far as setting up again anywhere. If he hasn't made any money after his bills are paid then basic business sense will say move on to something else. If he's out there searching for investors so he can "do it right this time" I have to wonder what he's going to change, because you sure don't need to be any kind of specialist to see that he didn't do it right this time.

That is a lot of wasted kids in small town Alberta.
I wonder how many died. I know I could just Google it but I don't care that much.
