Weird things from the 1970s

Post by Thinktank »

Remember how everyone had to have a good stereo because
The Japanese convinced us it was so important to have good sound going
into our ears? Sanyo. Technics. Akai. Pioneer. JVC. Marantz. Toshiba.

Well - those things weren't necessary, were they? We spent a lot of money for nothing.
I wonder if we're still being tricked into spending our money on stuff we don't need.

Then the Japanese convinced us to spend $500 or more on a good car stereo.
Wow.

Didn't a Brit invent stereo? And what's weird about it?

Sorry - but it was Led Zeppelin that convinced me I needed a kick *bleep* stereo and it was Def Lepard that convinced me I needed one for the car - both weren't Japanese as I recall.

What's next? You going to blame the Germans for convincing us to buy a car?

Good grief Charlie Brown!

The car makers have convinced us we need to spend $thousands of dollars on options
that end up in the garbage after twenty years. And they give us the best deals on the
cars with the most 'crap' installed in them.

Sunroof, chrome bumpers, air conditioning - after few years - garbage.
We are easily tricked.

Sunroof...very nice to have in hot weather especially when parked, lets the heat out.

Air conditioning...imperative to have in hot weather when you are in and out of your car a lot. (which I was and will never be without it. Think global warming!)

Chrome bumpers...meh

We are easily tricked.

Tricked into what? All the features I have in my car are features I desire as an individual and bring me comfort and enjoyment when I drive.

Sunroof - provides me with sunshine and fresh air while I drive.
Chrome bumpers - not my thing, I prefer body colored bumpers and I'm willing to pay extra for something that is aesthetically pleasing to my eye.
Air Conditioning - keeps me cool and comfortable when its hot out.

Garbage? Haven't "thrown" any of that out - after years of use I simply trade it in for a newer model and only end up paying for the years I've used it.

You should seriously re-consider changing your avatar ...

pay over $500 - $1,000 for amp, tuner, tape deck, turntable, speakers.

That's weird behaviour. and many people did it. We thought we had to.

We do the same thing now only with different things.

If you think that then you are the one with a problem!

No one has to buy anything they chose not to and were not forced to buy any of those things. There were much cheaper alternatives.

So where are the amps, tuners, tape decks, turntables, speakers., etc. in that picture? Looks more like an old TV / monitor graveyard.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Few years ago I threw a bunch out. The volume controls go bad on all that Japanese crap
we thought we needed, and I didn't want to start repairing the stuff. So it went to the dump.
And some went to the recycle.
