Jeez, this is scary. Being a Scots outsider looking in, but with Canadian relatives and friends, this disturbs me as I know it does all of you. Maybe a stupid question but when people provide camp sites such as this in BC or other parts of your country shouldnt they be made to provide a fire-safe shelter on ground. I'm sure they could provide a bunker of sorts that has safe haven for a day or more until they can be reached or at least a chance of being reached?

Re: Rock Creek Wildfire
I drove right past the fire on Highway 3 a couple of hours ago before they closed the highways and it was already really bad then. It was burning extensively and aggressively right beside the highway on the north side of the hairpin with a second smaller aggressive grass fire again immediately beside the highway about 3/4 of the way up the hill from the hairpin. I saw one fixed-wing aircraft flying around but there were no visible firefighters on scene when I went through - just some locals with rakes and such and a small tank truck and some hoses. Significant burning and smoke though from both fires. The temperature was 39 degrees at the time with strong gusty winds. Terribly dangerous conditions overall. There was also another pretty significant smoke column that appeared to be just south of the border between Bridesville and Osoyoos and the wind appeared to be blowing it north so there may be another significant issue in the area soon as well.
