The smoke drifted across the border Saturday evening, and has significantly affected air quality in the Okanagan.

According to Environment Canada, the current condition at 6 a.m. was a Level 10, or high risk, in the Central and South Okanagan. It's forecast to improve to a Level 7 in the Central and South Okanagan, and a Level 6 in the North Okanagan during the day.

For the at-risk or health-compromised population, that means reducing or rescheduling strenuous activities outdoors. Children and the elderly should also take it easy, advises Environment Canada's website.

The general population should consider reducing outdoor activities if you experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation.

"There are no new fires," Kelowna fire dispatch reminds.

The worst thing in my mind is the fact that it has grounded all air crews fighting fires out of Penticton Fire base. The visibility at 7am at Penticton Airport was 3/4 mile. Nothing is going to takeoff or land with those numbers.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

I wouldn't be so sure that the majority of that smoke is coming from Stickpin. Thats over South of Grand Forks. There's more fires directly South of us, on the U.S.A. side. More likely that the smoke is coming from those ones.

And...how would anyone ever know if there was ?
I can't even see my neighbor's house up in East Kelowna - so thinking the chances of anyone being able to spot a new fire in the hills is slim to none.

Satellites can pick up fires quite easily.

All I can say...if it's this bad here I really feel for the folks across the border in the middle of the fires.

Never seen the air quality at a 10 before. I have breathing issues. Stuck inside with it. For those that can breathe and don't want to be out in it you can imagine how we feel with it. Bad stuff. Going to be a lot of healthy people feeling ill with the smell.

The OK Mountain fire was 25,000ha versus 19,000ha for Stickpin (as per the most current info I could find).
