B.C. wildfire crews are responding to a new blaze that has ignited near Highway 97C at the Silver Creek pullout.

Fire information officer Melissa Klassen says crews are on their way there now, but they do not have boots on the ground. The fire is near Mount Wilson.

A provincial bird dog plane attempted to fly over the fire and get details, but smoke in the area is making that difficult.

“Given poor visibility right now, they are having issues spotting the fire, but we have lots of reports coming from the ground,” says Klassen.

A team of four ground forest firefighters will be on the scene soon. She says the bird dog is there to assess visibility and determine if air tankers are able to respond. Two helicopters are also on standby to do so.

The approximate size of the fire and cause is currently unknown.

I am confused as Mt. Wilson mentioned in Castanet story is on the SOUTH side of the connector.
Any clarification, as to what side of Connector 97C fire is located. North or South?
Please email for picture and further information.

I live on Trepanier Court and it's not here. I went up the road to the greens (the party area) which is right below the spot they reference and I could only see a slight amount of what could be either dust from the dump trucks or smoke. Not sure which. The winds switch in the late afternoon and come down the valley so I hope it turns out to be nothing.

It also says it is near the Silver Creek pull out. So was the picture taken from the pull out area?

No news is usually good news. It was a tiny fire, I'm sure they've got it under control.

Ill bet the vehicle started on fire because of a cigarette. One thing i have learned from Castanet forums is that cigarettes cause all fires and Kelowna is a terrible place to live. Oh and tolerance wont be tolerated.
