Fire Rant

Post by tsayta »

I probably woke up in a bad mood this morning but what's the deal with this year's fire season?

-if I see one more news report that uses the term 'tinder' dry, I'm gonna scream. What the heck is a tinder anyways? Surely we can find a new word.

-why is every fire assumed to be started by a smoker?

-why are boaters and drone operators so dumb?

-why is there 7 smoke forums?

Feel free to add to my list
I have learned that to be with those I like is enough.

And why is it always a "wildfire?"

As opposed to a domesticated fire, I suppose?

True. I always knew them as forest fires, not wildfires. Now, if said forest fire spread to the size of the Stickpin fire, OK, that's a wildfire. A "wildfire" in Narramata, put out with a garden hose is not really a wild fire!
Sorry, I must have woken up mad, too!! Sorry!!

I think it's time to take down the fire forum once threads like this start popping up.

At one time the Forest Service was responsible for "Forest Fires". Now it is British Columbia Wildfire Service, thus the term "Wildfires". Over time many terms have changed in fire fighting. For instance we used to have a "fire boss", we now have an "Incident Commander" (IC). Water Bombers are now correctly called "Air Tankers". Many new terms are now inline with standardization of "Incident Command", an International standard of organization and terminology for dealing with any disaster.

Why can't the media specifically Castanet get some of the terminology right. Fire Centers and Fire Zones have been around since the 90's yet I still read "Kamloops Fire District"

why? it's a valid rant. those of us who live it, should be able to *bleep* about it.

I'm heading to work soon, so I'll be able to vent some smoke outta my ears and butt.

On a very slightly more serious note, I have a perfect view of Little White & area from my deck here up in Joe Rich - can't see any smoke from those new fires there at all, because of all the other friggin' smoke. GO AWAY, SMOKE, SO I CAN SEE THE SMOKE!
