I haven't seen anyone else saying this but white ash is falling downtown.
Car windshield is slowly getting covered in it.

As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Re: Little White / Gillard fire
Now here's a statement I really have a problem with!
Cpl. Joe Duncan, media spokesperson for the Kelowna detachment, said as far as he knew, officers had no issues with people ignoring their call to leave the area.
Copied from: http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-st ... htm#146782
He doesn't have a problem with boaters AFTER being told to get.....go right back in again???
No wonder they (boaters) are not listening.

Re: Little White / Gillard fire
This from another news source 3 hours ago.
"Some good news regarding the Little White Mountain fire south of Kelowna.
Fire Information Officer Melissa Klassen tells AM 1150 the blaze isn't nearly as aggressive as it was on Thursday. It's also only 120 hectares in size, which is smaller than crews initially had mapped it at.
However, Klassen says there are still a couple of concerns.
"The potential for some strong winds, so really on average our winds are from 15 to 25 kilometres per hour with gusts of up to 40 kilometres per hour. We also have an issue of people trying to access the area," explains Klassen.
There are close to 30 fire fighters battling the Little White Mountain blaze and they're having issues with people ignoring signs to stay out of the area. Klassen advises against using the forest service road in the area.
The fire is still not contained, but Klassen says crews are working to establish a guard around the fire perimeter and they're hoping the cooler weather will help."

Driving is a necessity for most, whereas you getting your jollies hiking out in the back country is not. To compare the two is a bit of a reach on your part.
In times of danger the needs of the many should always come before the needs of the few, though your hiking is in fact more of a want, than a need.

Do you really think it's that easy? Just close up the gate and that's that?!
No rules/regulations ever go unchallenged, and by the supremely self entitled sector are more often than not flat out ignored, but the fact of the matter is enforcement and penalties would be much easier to implement since technically there should be no one in the back country, so anyone who is, gets to pay the price.
It's people who think they are above the law, that make such seemingly drastic actions necessary.
Just look at last weekend, there can't possibly be a person in BC that isn't aware of the open fire ban, yet not only are these self absorbed morons still building fires, they felt it necessary to up the ante and shoot off some fireworks as a bonus.
If it takes raising the ire of a few rednecks, by closing the back country to protect others, then so be it, life goes on.

Almost 200 hectares...sounds like the might have the Kelowna side 'addressed'...with the bulk of the grow being north to northeast maybe with some luck they can get that addressed tomorrow. Any idea why there was no air support today?
Maybe every air crew was in Oliver? Sure hope the winds die down and we get some much needed rain. Any little bit helps!

Maybe the incident commander didn't feel the need for tanker support and or there were other higher priority needs? Air Tankers don't put out fires they just support the ground crews.

I have a fair view of the area now that some of the valley smoke has cleared. Almost no smoke coming from this one, it looks dead calm.
