Everybody isn't on Castanet Forums to "hear" you say boaters get off the lake so tankers can do their job.
The 2003 fire aka "the big one" should not be compared to any fires, they are all devastating.
There is more news to READ than what Castanet posts.

If the cops were seen towing a boat away from the scene, with the boaters in handcuffs, word would get out really quickly.
The cops are afraid that if they bust the wrong boat they would get in deep doodoo.

Have people come to such a state of stupidness that they have to "hear" to get the hell clear of air tankers. Common sense should tell anyone that. Just get as far away as possible, not as close as you dare to make a video with your cell phone.

This is kinda sorta a fire rant.

I wake up this morning and there's no freaking rain.
Where's the freaking predicted rain?
I see weak clouds.
I see no rain.
I see fires still going.
Rain to put the fires out,
damn it.

My rant is - even being a Kelowna resident - why are we so damned special ?

We have some extremely serious fires all around us, entire communities in jeopardy. People being evacuated, homes being lost...and yet, at the first sign of a smoke plume anywhere near us, every resource available is transferred here immediately.
This fire at Little White poses no immediate threat to any structures.
The fire in Oliver desperately needed those air strikes that were re-routed to Kelowna all day yesterday.
There was more devastation in the small community of Rock Creek than in Kelowna in 2003.

People have all lost sight of one very important thing - forest fires are a good thing in the log run.
They are nature's way of refreshing and renewing the land. We have species of trees which need fire to reproduce.
Fire naturally clears the forests of years worth of debris, dead wood and pine needles.

So, instead of wasting resources on a fire that is posing no threat to structures or development....why not allow it to do what it is meant to do ?
I'm not talking about letting it rage totally out of control....but why not just let it burn the excess fuel and control any front that threatens to move towards civilization ?

There was more devastation in the small community of Rock Creek than in Kelowna in 2003. You should be a journalist cuz that is an amazing spin. Rock Creek lost I think 29 homes and assorted other structures and because there are only 59 or so homes in the area, relatively speaking, it sounds bad when you say that almost half the homes there were destroyed and to an outsider, they might think WOW! That must have been bad (and it was). But to say that it was worse than 2003? I think not.

Agreed, when they are started naturally and not by some *bleep* hat campers or by a carelessly discarded ciggy butt. Not that naturally ignited fires don't cause destruction (2003 was a lightning strike after all) but mother nature doesn't need any help from us.

You might be amazed at how quickly even a fire that is being monitored can get out of hand. The 2003 fire raged out of control while officials stood around at the beginning trying to determine whose responsibility it was. Happens quick.

On the upside, driving from rock creek to westbridge the other day, I saw tons of standing fire killed trees.
Firewood will be plentiful this winter.

im sure it burns just fine I would rather not be covered in soot and sharpening my saw after every two cuts was my point
