Dance as if no one's watching, sing as if no one's listening, and live everyday as if it were your last.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

The NDPs biggest change was in Quebec,
mainly due to Bloc resurgence.

The Boc MPs are a total waste of time and money

I wouldn't be proud to say a separatist party and the NDP share the same voters

Excellent point Jimmy. But don't expect it to be understood by the NDP unwashed.

The election is over. Are you still sticking with this completely untrue rhetoric? Time to move on.

Bazinga!

But it's true - Mulcair and Layton tried to woo the Quebec separatist vote and didn't judge the fickleness in that support base correctly this time around.

Truth is if the Conservative and the Liberals could widen their scope we could have only 2 parties in this country.

Now comes the hard part. Justin Trudeau's popularity will likely never be higher than it is now because very soon he'll be making decisions and decision-making can take a toll on one's popularity. He was elected, in part, because he wasn't Stephen Harper but now he has an opportunity, over the next four years, to govern well and be re-elected because of who he is. Here's an excerpt from a Margaret Wente column and a link to the entire article in the Globe and Mail:

One of the few people to see the landslide coming was Brian Mulroney, a political junkie who knows every one of Canada’s 338 ridings inside-out. He has warned that Mr. Trudeau is a man of consequence, and last week he was telling friends to expect something big. Mr. Mulroney should know – it was a landslide that swept him into office in 1984, giving him the biggest majority in history. The joke was that if the election had lasted two weeks longer, he would have taken every single seat. (The tide went out in 1993, when his Progressive Conservatives were reduced to a pathetic two seats.)

“I ran and was successful because I wasn’t Pierre Trudeau,” Mr. Mulroney said Monday night. “Jean Chrétien ran and was successful because he wasn’t Brian Mulroney, and Justin Trudeau tonight was successful because he wasn’t Stephen Harper.”

It’s high tide for Mr. Trudeau now. Does he have the smarts and instincts to make the most of it? We’ll have four years to find out. And I, for one, wish him well.

Finally — we got our country back

Image

Thank goodness we got our country back. Because apparently, Prime Minister Stephen Harper stole it from us and he was refusing to give it back.

I'm not sure how he managed to swipe it exactly, whether it was through lowering the tax burden on Canadians or transferring record levels of funding to the provinces for health care and social services.

Maybe he stole it when he created tax-free savings accounts for Canadians who wanted something other than restrictive RRSPs to save for the future. Perhaps it was when he allowed families and seniors to split their incomes for tax purposes to save money.

It could be that Stephen Harper stole Canada from us when he brought in tougher penalties for criminals who commit serious offences like child sexual abuse or who use firearms when committing a crime. That could be it.

Or maybe it happened when he issued a formal apology to victims of residential schools, brought in new programs to address violence against aboriginal women and ensured First Nations people have the same legal right to review their local government's finances that other levels of government do.

I never really thought that when Stephen Harper reduced the GST to 5% from 7% -- which has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years -- that he was actually stealing my country by allowing me to keep more of my own money. But his political opponents insist he was. So it must be true. Stephen Harper stole our country right from under our noses and I didn't even notice. Go figure.

But all's well that ends well. We have our country back again. Phew.

Canada is now in the trusted hands of Justin Trudeau. We know he won't steal Canada from us. OK, so the rookie Liberal leader doesn't have much life experience. In fact, he really has no experience running anything at all. He has no grasp of the complex issues facing any prime minister. And he has trouble speaking about political matters unless they're written for him in a script.

But so what? As long as he doesn't steal our country from us like Stephen Harper did we can all sleep soundly at night.

Hope prevailed over fear. That's what this election was all about, right? Our prime minister stole our country from us and deliberately promoted hatred and fear? That's what Canadians were led to believe. Or at least that's was Justin Trudeau's message was. And apparently it worked.

Whatever the case, I'm glad we have our country back, I really am. I didn't know Harper had stolen it. But I'm glad we have it back all the same.

And I look forward to life again knowing our country has been returned to its rightful owner. No more divisive policies coming out of Ottawa; happy provincial premiers holding hands with Canada's prime minister singing Kumbaya; no more Supreme Court of Canada challenges of our criminal laws; and no more accusations of racism against the federal government.

The best part about this is that if Trudeau falls short, including a failure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, settle land claims with First Nations, reduce child poverty or "save" Canada's medicare system, it won't mean a return of hatred and fear over hope.

Only a Conservative leader could be responsible for that. Or at least that's how it's interpreted in Canadian political culture.

It will simply mean that a warm and fuzzy Trudeau had his heart in the right place and that he did the best he could. After all, he gave us our country back. What more could we ask for?

I travel quite a bit, and I can say that our country is still thought of the same way we once were, whatever that even means. This whole peace-keeping thing is a red herring, as I doubt most people outside of Canada even know we are known for that, if indeed we ever were, really. I also think that people who claim that they aren't proud of Canada should really give their head a shake. They are being horribly gullible, and falling for partisan rhetoric.

Sorry, GB. Canada doesn't, nor never has been a fan of this. This is Harpers plan for Canada, and Canada has spoken. Spoken AGAINST this. A red herring it is not. It is public opinion, but if you feel bombing other countries who posed no threat to us, (but now do through our bombings), please, go right ahead. that's what makes Canada great! You're entitled to your opinion.
I feel we are not thoughht of the same way we were when we held peacekeeping roles, and not soldiers fighting role.
You want war? Get the 2 leaders of the opposing parties, put them in a ring, and let them go at it until there's only 1 left. Settles it, and imagine...a war with only 1 casualty.

So were you against going into Afghanistan too? Because you can't hang that one on Harper.

Only people with no concept whatsoever of what peacekeeping is or when it is even possible bleat on and on about how we should return to peacekeeping! All they know is that it makes for an awesome sound bite.

Most of the conflicts in the world today are being waged between ideologies, not nations. Peacekeeping only works when two opposing nations agree to be separated and monitored by a third party. Where would you suggest we send peacekeepers now? Do you envision Canadian peacekeepers in their snazzy blue berets and binoculars standing between ISIS and the Kurds, or between Sunni and Shia muslims or between Boko Haram and the people of Nigeria or perhaps between the troops of the Ukraine and the pro-Russian separatist Ukrainians? Or you'd prefer we return to sending battalion after battalion every six months for another 30 years to lounge around on the beaches of Cyprus. I gotta admit, it was a pretty good gig while it lasted!

It would however be kind of entertaining to see JT in a ring with Putin!

Well said. In order to be peacekeepers, you have to have leaders from opposing sides who want some sort of settlement. Sure there are going to be skirmishes but the will to find peace has to be there. Groups like ISIS don't want peace, they want to take over everything. If they saw a blue beret, they would shoot it off.
