I agree GB with all you said. Unfortunately, this 'one route out' business reminds me of the nightmare that is Glenrosa. During the fire of 2008 the evacuation was at a snail's pace and fire was blazing just blocks away. It's a weird feeling sitting in your car NOT MOVING when you know have to get the hell out of there.

a few years ago we were at Ellison provincial park and were enjoying a nice day at the beach as a family when suddenly a park ranger showed up and advised that we should get packed up. We started up the hill slowly, all laden with stuff and when we got to the parking lot we suddenly saw flames just a few feet up the hill! We made it to our cars and got on the road, but we were stopped as the fire was jumping the road. That was pretty scary stuff, just sitting there watching flames all around us. But it wasn't anything like Ft. McMurray. That was a full on firestorm.

We've had that up here in The Rich a few times too...it sure gives some of us a little insight into what the folks in Ft. Mc are going through.

All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW!!! Love me my Canadians!!! Donated over 30 million bucks to Fort Mac by Friday morning!!

The fire covers an enormous area, it will take a very long time to contain. After the warm weather tomorrow it'll likely be much larger. The new fire to the east has also grown quite large.

Quite a few...Stats Canada has the most accurate and they are predicting low on sunday :( although it is moving into monday....
Likelihood of Precipitation (LOP) as described in the public forecast as a chance of measurable precipitation for a period of time.

Medium: 60% or 70%
High: Above 70%

It's definitely that time of year again........

I remember during the Kelowna 2003 fires phoning my mother and we were both SO EXCITED because a few drops of rain had come down! Every day we all waited for rain. We had gone without any precipitation for three weeks or something like that. Manna from Heaven that rain was like! It was only a few drops but we were SO excited.

Probably a good idea to get papers and pictures loaded up in the car, or at least a first aid kit etc.
