As yet no oil extraction sites or pipeline infrastructure has been damaged, although some of the operations south of Ft. McMurray are under threat as the fire moves south east of town. Damage in and around Ft Mac has been largely to residential areas. With the money wrapped up in the Ft. Mac oil patch they will move back into production quickly as long as the immediate threat of fire is reduced. The CNRL and Shell operations to the north of town hardly missed a beat, they have been in production throughout, and Suncor started recalling employees today.

Most of the big projects such as Kearl, Fort Hills, Sunrise, Firebag Horizon, Albian are up by Fort MacKay - so at least they're safe.

I stopped by the gas station tonight, and they were out of gas. The attendant said shortages are all over because they have to get gas from the coast.

On the Island, gas was consistently 105.9/L, as soon as we hit Vancouver, gas went to 120.9/L on average.

If you do the math and add fudge factor for inflation, it should be ~ 5 billion.

Its really not comparable, the size of structures lost in a town of 6500 would be much smaller then the size and scope of structures in oil rich Fort Mac. For example a motel in SL might have 40rooms, but in fort mac it is more like 140. Still one structure but one claim is for $2mm and the other is for $8mm.
