Wow that's really bizarre. Why would somebody open burn right beside a grass slope? Open burning is also banned right now.

Indeed, West Kelowna Estates is the correct area.

You're welcome Mikesphotos.
Bird Dog thinks Fire Dept. has things well in hand now so they're sending in helicopter to do bucketing now.
I do have to agree that it is a "special kind of stupid" to open burn with the conditions the way they are.

Visually from center of Kelowna (so grain of salt, pretty far away) the smoke was down to almost nill after the two retardant drops, it did look a lot better than a couple hours ago for sure. But again, pretty far away, can't actually see the base itself.

Re: Wildfire off Westside Rd
Ya just checked again and can't see any smoke at all. So it's either burning SUPER HOT AND DRY...or it's pretty much out. ;)

Re: Wildfire off Westside Rd
Helicopter has stopped doing drops so crews are making steady headway on it. They've got things pretty much under control now and hopefully should start mop up soon.
Not to negate the work that the crews on the line have done, but I think that fire dispatcher that's on now has done a helluva job with all the radio traffic she's had to handle so far today. She deserves some kudos...

You can see where the fire started on picture 3/9 in the "submit your images" Castanet article. Open gravel pit / lot with what looks like a little garbage burning pit and a trail of soot leading up the hill.
