It has zero to do with belief or lack of belief in ghosts, aliens, bigfoot or unicorns.

I find it odd as well. But, as you have been told many times already, the only thing atheists have in common is lack of belief in a deity. So, no, atheists don't believe in ghosts. Individuals, who happen to be atheists, may or may not believe in ghosts.

You would have to ask them. I don't share that belief. My best guess is fear of death being forever and wanting to feel our lost loved ones are still "here" in some manner.

Oh, I 'got it'...it was simply a ridiculous statement to begin with.

Try to get this: Not all atheists believe in ghosts.
In fact, not all Christians believe in ghosts either. Not all Christians even believe in your holy ghost.

Beliefs are a personal thing, therefore you would have to find someone who believes in ghosts to find your answer.

Perhaps you need to try to get the fact that it is not unimaginable that someone could believe that there's more than just this one life and one plane of existence without believing in an Abrahamic god or Jesus and a Christian holy ghost figure.

Spiritual beliefs are not always black and white Christian /atheist.

Christ actually taught about the Holy spirit, not about a holy ghost.
But, there is much debate as to whether or not that spirit was meant to be a separate entity or whether it was just the presence of god.
Not all Christians believe in the trinity.
