Imo bowls are safer than old salt glazed crocks.
Salt glazed crocks tend to have some porosity in the glaze- today's materials offer a safer bet.
I have a fair number of old crocks, from half gallon to ten. Imo they're only good for brolly holders and cat food storage.

I haven't failed until I quit.

We're eating White Himrod grapes, lots of White Peach tomatoes and Hart tomatoes.
Lady, if you want to sample a White Peach, come on over. They are amazing, melt in your mouth good.
Picked two nice cukes today too. Ears of corn are developing but I have the wrong soil for corn. Even after all these years of soil amendment, the clay is too strong for the corn. Short plants, not enough ear growth.

I'd love to try one - I might be able to swing by tomorrow, if not then Thursday.
My corn is short, but I am getting ears on them . . .

Suggestions on corn.
I planted two different varieties in the same small corner of my garden. A yellow sweet corn and a blue Hopi Corn for drying and grinding into flour.
I've noticed my Blue Hopi growing taller but not really producing anything.

Picked Fall Raspberries. So many tomatoes are coming in, as are Himrod grapes we're drowning in food. I know, what a problem to have eh?

All the harvesting that people are talking about doing is making me tired. I have to quit reading this thread for a while until I get rested up. Call me when the work is done O.K.??

I'll call you when the wines ready.
Better yet, I'll call you when it's half drank.
We'll have a good chat.

I'll let it ring.

Re: Gardening 2016: Fruits, Veggies, Flowers
Okay. So in all the fuss and furor of the last few weeks - I forgot about my garden. As in, had no time. I went out today - my corn is all dried up
I did get salsa made and tomatoes canned though.
Kale and chard going strong. I used some chard in a quiche last night - yum!
I have two cantelopes - about the size of ping pong balls.
It sure has been an odd year for the garden. Curcurbits did NOT do well, usually I have a ton of squash and this time I have 2.
I'll probably start garden cleanup sometime after the first frost - any idea when that might be?

Save your corn, let it totally dry out and use those kernels for growing next year.

Yeah, anyone have any idea when I should be bringing in the rest of those veggies?
