Denying the obvious
It happens every election cycle but denying the obvious is being taken to new heights this year. Some examples on here:
1. We're being told that those who say that the premier dresses to attract gullible men aren't being sexist. Nothing sexist about "photo-op princess" or "bimbo" either. Deny the obvious.
2. In the 2001 provincial election the NDP was almost wiped out with the final seat count at 77-2 for the Liberals. That, we're told, was a close election that could have gone either way. We're also told it was a glorious time for the province but apparently voters just didn't realize it at the time. Being last in economic growth just didn't appeal to them for some reason. Deny the obvious.
3. In 1998 Carole James, President of the BC School Trustees Association, was very critical of the backroom deal between the government and the BCTF. We were told that she couldn't have said such a thing so I produced the quote (available from many sources). The poster pretended not to be able to find the quote in the article (even though I had already posted the quote) and he produced another quote where Carole James said she favoured bargaining. LOL. Deny the obvious. Yes, that was the same Carole James who would become leader of the NDP until the radicals booted her out for being dangerously close to the political centre.
4. John Horgan says that he doesn't disagree with the bulk of the Leap Manifesto and that he will bring in his own Leap Manifesto if he becomes premier. We're told that because it's part of an ad sponsored by people who want him to lose that what he said on the video doesn't count. Yes, he also said last year that the Leap Manifesto isn't a good fit for BC and so his position is clear as mud. So we're told just to ignore the positive things he now says about the Leap Manifesto. Unless you're in the extreme environmentalist wing of the party. In that case you can pay close attention to his words now. Deny the obvious.
5. BC has the strongest economy in the country. We're #1 in job growth and we have the lowest unemployment rate. And yet we're told that somehow the NDP could do even better. And we're told that some of the jobs are part-time and not always top quality jobs either. Deny the obvious.
6. The Liberals making promises equals buying votes. The NDP making promises such as $10 a day daycare is no such thing. Deny the obvious.
7. The BCTF runs ads telling people that after 15 years of supposedly terrible things happening in education we need a new government. Nothing partisan about that we're told. And those government ads that don't say anything about voting Liberal? We're told they are partisan. Deny the obvious.
8. Both major parties have a sleaze factor and most posters who plan to vote Liberal seem to recognize that. For some reason, NDP supporters don't see any sleaze on the part of their party of choice. Deny the obvious.

Re: Denying the obvious
1. Only to a dyed-in-the-wool BC Liberal (nee Social Credit) supporter would words such a 'photo op princess' and 'bimbo' be considered 'sexist remarks'. When did stating the obvious become 'sexist'? Gordon Campbell was called out for many of his anti-British Columbian actions. Were those 'sexist' remarks as well?
2. The NDP being 'almost wiped out' in 2001 had nothing to do with economic growth and everything to do with Gordon Campbell's gift of being able to spin a media story (with the aid of certain MSM journalists) to his advantage. The 'fast cats' story was the best example of this, but there were many others. If you don't believe me, go back to the Sun and Province archives and see for yourself.
3. Fair enough. I'm bringing up a past leader of the BC Liberals, so you're allowed to talk about past NDP leaders. I actually thought she was one of the best leaders the BC NDP has had, but didn't quite measure up to Dave Barrett, of course.
4. Those misleading ads by the BC Liberals are taking John Horgan's words out of context, and you know it. The Leap Manifesto is a federal thing that each provincial party can agree or disagree with, depending on their policies.
5. Ridiculous statements that come from the BC Liberal ads and website. If you believe them, I have some cheap ocean-front property in Alberta for sale. The only 'jobs' Christy has created beyond low-level, minimum wage service jobs are those in the over-inflated real estate sales and development, and the unprofitable resource industries whose contractors are big BC Liberal donors.
6. It's called an 'election campaign' for a reason, but the difference between what the BC Liberals are promising and what the NDP and other political parties are promising is that the BC Liberals don't follow through on their promises post-election. A good example of that is the LNG promises from 4 years ago.....Debt-free BC (the debt's increased at least $22 billion since), 100,000 jobs, trillion dollar prosperity fund, no more PST, etc, etc.
7. If you think it's acceptable for a Premier of this province to spend millions of taxpayers' dollars to fight teachers in court for 15 years, only to lose her case in the Supreme Court of Canada within 20 minutes, then you must have similar morals, and that is why you're a BC Liberal supporter.
8. NDP voters exhibit no illusions of the fact that politicians of all stripes must be held accountable. The difference between them and the BC Liberal voters is that the BC Lib voters don't think it's up to them to force their candidates to be accountable to anyone besides their corporate donors.

Being "called out" for something is not the same as personal attacks of a sexist nature. The notion that she deserves it so it's okay is disgusting.
2. Gordon Campbell would have won the previous election, and in fact did win the popular vote, but he himself was never popular. The NDP were almost wiped out because voters wanted them nowhere near government.
3. Fair enough. I'm bringing up a past leader of the BC Liberals, so you're allowed to talk about past NDP leaders. I actually thought she was one of the best leaders the BC NDP has had, but didn't quite measure up to Dave Barrett, of course.
The main point was what Carole James thought of the backroom deal in 1998. She wasn't impressed.
4. Those misleading ads by the BC Liberals are taking John Horgan's words out of context, and you know it. The Leap Manifesto is a federal thing that each provincial party can agree or disagree with, depending on their policies.
Oh I think that taking things out of context is part of the political process but Horgan should be more careful about how he words things. He did in fact say that he doesn't disagree with the bulk of the Leap Manifesto and that he will bring in his own Leap Manifesto if elected.
You don't need to look at the BC Liberal ads to know that BC has the strongest economy in the country. You should do a little research and look up what Stats Canada has to say. Best job growth in the country and the lowest unemployment. Balanced budget too.
The NDP promised a cancer clinic to Kamloops but it went to Kelowna. The NDP promised a new bridge for Kelowna but it was the Liberals who delivered. Promises, promises.
7. If you think it's acceptable for a Premier of this province to spend millions of taxpayers' dollars to fight teachers in court for 15 years, only to lose her case in the Supreme Court of Canada within 20 minutes, then you must have similar morals, and that is why you're a BC Liberal supporter.
Once again you're not reading and comprehending what I said. The issue is whether or not the BCTF ads are partisan and of course they are.
8. NDP voters exhibit no illusions of the fact that politicians of all stripes must be held accountable. The difference between them and the BC Liberal voters is that the BC Lib voters don't think it's up to them to force their candidates to be accountable to anyone besides their corporate donors.
Wrong again. I think that we should hold all of our politicians accountable for their actions. For all of the above though, just don't deny the obvious.

Re: Denying the obvious
1. Disgusting behaviour results in harsh criticism. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
2. But why do you suppose that was? It sure as heck wasn't because of the reason you suggest.
3. Whatever. I'm not concerned about something a politician said 20 years ago.
$. If he truly said that, yes, I agree he should be more careful about how he words things.
6. It's how they balance the budget that annoys me. Bringing Crown corporations (OUR corporations) to the brink of bankruptcy is a truly incompetent way to run a province.
7. A clinic that went to Kelowna instead of Kamloops? That's the best you can do? And you shouldn't be bringing up that BC Liberal bridge fiasco. If the NDP had been around long enough to build it, it would have been built in the proper place to begin with. The inept BC Libs instead dismantled a perfectly good floating bridge that should have been maintained and twinned, and proceeded to build another bridge in the same place (with only 5 lanes, BTW). Then, just a couple of years later they decided, 'uh-oh, we made a boo-boo. Let's build another one where we should have built the last one'. Christy brought that up in her 2013 campaign, then simply forgot about it until 4 years later. Now it's part of her campaign again. Most Kelowna residents see her for the scam artist she is and, according to popular opinion, would like to see Kelowna bypassed altogether and have Westside Road become a freeway between Vernon and West Kelowna.

At least we agree on something.

Dave Barrett was a one-term loser premier, but I guess when you look at the long track record of failure that is the NDP, no one really measures up to him in BC. Which is an extremely sad and pathetic statement, all in all.lasnomadas wrote:

Remember last election when people on here kept saying "show us your dix" and calling Dix an ugly loser? These comments weren't sexist?
I can pretty much guarantee someone here is going to call an NDP member (male) a fat slob and you won't call the comment sexist.
Deny the obvious.....sexism is only sexism when someone calls Christy Clark something.

^^ Yes, on another thread you made it clear that all those comments about the premier weren't sexist. Denying the obvious. I actually give John Horgan more credit than I do some of his supporters on here. I doubt very much that he would be happy with the nature of some of the comments being made and he would see them as counterproductive.

You completely ignored the crux of my post. You claim it's mainly NDP supporters making nasty comments - sexist or otherwise. Do I really have to ask again what you thought about all those people saying "show us your dix" and calling Dix an ugly loser? People would post pictures of Dix's face and then post absolutely brutal comments about how supposedly ugly he is.Urbane wrote:^^ Yes, on another thread you made it clear that all those comments about the premier weren't sexist. This thread alone has someone calling an NDP member a "loser premier," but for some reason you don't consider this comment nasty.
You can hate the NDP all you want, but it'd be nice if you could finally acknowledge all the nastiness that Liberal supporters spew on these boards. Constantly.

Nice try Urbane, but the brain-washed NDP lovers will never get it, or ever admit any wrong-doing, or accept any blame, You are talking to a brick wall.Urbane wrote: Yes, the Dix comments are juvenile and you're pretty outraged. You see those comments as sexist but you can't bring yourself to admit that the obvious sexist comments directed at the premier are sexist. Denying the obvious.
