Oh yeah. If Christy Clark had just tried harder I'm sure Donald Trump would have ignored the lumber lobby in the US and drop the idea of a tariff. Good grief. Horgan should keep his mouth shut at this point.

These tariffs will negatively impact our economy and drive up lumber costs along with putting a bunch of people out of work.
Horgan and Mulcair need to shut their damn mouths and realize this is a non-partisan moment where we all need to unite against this problem.

Trying to make political hay over this unfortunate turn of events is despicable. :-X

So if Mr. Horgan gets the Premier's job he will travel to Washington personally. Geez, doesn't he watch the news? As if a small time, backwater left winger would ever get the President's ear in a million years. Leave this one to the feds.

Calm down John,

How does one know when one is reading comments on an Okanagan public opinion forum? When the only softwood lumber story begins with 'NDP slams'. What a great invitation for the anti-NDPers to get on their BC Liberal bandwagon.

Here's a thought. The last softwood lumber deal with the US came up for re-negotiation in 2015, yet Christy Clark decided to do nothing until Trump made one of his infamous 'proclamations'. As recently as April 7 of this year, Christy was interviewed by Global BC about this very trade agreement and the headline read: 'Christy Clark praises Trump, rips Obama over softwood lumber negotiaion'.

Now, just a few weeks later, she goes into a huddle with her 'team' to avoid having to answer questions from the press, and British Columbians. This just after all her campaign crowing about how she was going to stand up for the forest industry against a maniacal US president.

We need to rid ourselves of this cancer called the BC Liberals and their 'leader', and elect someone who cares about British Columbia and her citizens. My advice to Christy is: 'Lead, follow, or get out of the way'.

It is very despicable, and yet a number of NDP cheerleaders are jumping with glee as if they just won the lottery. I don't think medical science will ever figure out how their noggins are wired.

All we can hope for, is that the sensible voters, will see such behavior as a red flag, and vote for anything but the NDP.

Premier Christy Clark held a meeting with members of her cabinet as she suspended campaigning for the May 9 election

The US announces the lumber tariff and Christy allegedly "suspends" her campaigning to meet with her cabinet.. Nope, not our Christy, she wouldn't miss a chance for a photo-op for all the tea in China.. She donned her safety vest and high tailed down to the nearest lumber mill as fast as she could, cause you know that's Christy.. And what did she actually have to say when she got there..

"Hey just chill, stay calm, we don't want to over-react".. smile, click..smile, click...smile, click...

As far as Mr. Horgan's claim that he will personally be in Washington in the first 30 days after his ascension to premier, who the heck does he think he is? An unpredictable ego-maniac like Trump will send some kid from the mailroom to meet Mr. Horgan and laugh about it in the oval office. What will Mr. Horgan accomplish on a trip like that? I mean other than getting his caricature in a few hundred political cartoons. Zip. Zilch. Nada. It's cheap political grandstanding, nothing else. And if he does win, he will regret ever having made a statement like that becasue nothing lays down that road but public humiliation.

not so fast speedy . there is this which i feel is on topic since someone mentioned trump vs whatever country in trade deals

Mexico can impose annual trade sanctions worth $163.23 million against the United States after winning a dispute over trade in tuna fish, a World Trade Organization arbitrator ruled on Tuesday.

im kinda hoping trump does send a mailroom staffer and laughs because i bet the dems are having bit of a chuckle . i hardly doubt horgan would be intimidated by ineptness .but i do have to wonder at a so called canadian cheery for the americans . care to explain?

Having met David Emerson, before he went into politics, I can tell you that in terms of understanding the softwood lumber issues, and being able to negotiate the issues, he is the guy. That is if anyone can in the face of Trump protectionism.

https://www.sbcmag.info/news/2017/feb/lumber-price-supply-volatility-what-will-happen-2017

"While negotiators for both countries appear to still be working toward an agreement, there remain several sticking points (export quotas, for example) that will make a new SLA difficult to reach quickly."

So NDP tooters, what inaction??? Where was Leo when all this was happening?

Typical NDP, no rational basis for their position.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.
