Christy came across as an air head, Horgan as a dinosaur and Weaver as a typically over educated smart *bleep*, but I could only stomach a half hour of it before I switched to the weather channel for some more stimulating information.

Those old Socred voters that were around in the 1950s spawned children that were taught very well by their Socred parents. They now have grandchildren who are being taught Socred/BC Liberal 101 as well, but sooner or later, some of the 'flock' breaks away from the fold and instead of having a survey that reads, BC liberal 52%, everyone else 48%, it will be more like surveys in the rest of B.C.
Nice try.
Kelowna's population has grown by almost 1400% since 1951, that growth is NOT due to the spawning of the local population. A much more likely explanation is that the increase in population is due to people that moved here (and that are continuing to move here) from other parts of Canada, most notably the Prairies which are traditionally conservative.

There's the age demographic to consider as well. People's political beliefs tend to shift to the right as they grow older and the Okanagan has a huge percentage of retirees.

Agreed, that is likely the biggest factor in the political landscape of the central Okanagan.

All up and down the Okanagan for that matter. The gray wave has washed over the whole valley from Osoyoos on north.
I listened to the local candidates' forum for Penticton last night as it streamed live from the Lakeside Hotel over a local internet radio station. I don't see much reason to think that the local vote will go anywhere but with the incumbent, Liberal Dan Ashton. He was forthright and honest, answered questions directly and frankly even if the answer might not have bolstered the Liberal campaign. The NDP candidate was at times almost arrogant and stuck pretty close to the "Let's get her!" strategy of the provincial candidate, taking some gratuitous shots at the incumbent on a number of occasions. The Green candidate had some good ideas, I think we are long past due to grasp the urgency of environmental responsibility but she's pretty green on more than one level and I suspect she would be severely out of place in a world as harsh and competitive as provincial politics.
All in all, the forum was a refreshing change from the previous night's provincial level school-yard free-for-all, but I think Penticton shouldn't expect anything other than continued Liberal representation for the next four years.

Wouldn't it be nice to have an all candidates forum here in West Kelowna........Wait a minute.........Our liberal MLA won't show up, she doesn't even own property here? Time to open your eyes and see what she really offers our riding.

That's the name of the game isn't it? Time to open our eyes and judge what each party/candidate can do for our riding, for ewach of us as individuals, and for the province as a whole. Voting based on anger is not the smart thing to do. There is no wisdom in kicking someone out unless you're sure that whoever you replace them with has something better to offer. Doing it right requires a lot of homework on the state of things now and where we're headed, where we would like to see us head, and who is best qualified to get us there. Plus there's the issue of balancing local candidates against those they represent at the provincial level.

LOL, she doesn't "show up" in the Legislature either, that's her MO.. She just dances across the Province in her hard hat and safety vest doing photo ops and planning her next "Tax Payer" funded propaganda ad to keep her sheeple believing that she is actually doing something.

Please Fluffy, you've been around long enough to know that our locally "elected" candidates can't do ANYTHING for our riding. The minute they are elected and for ever more to the end of their term they are "told" when, where and how to vote. You don't "dare" go against her hindness or you're out. The party WHIPS are there to ensure it.
Nope, the $110,000 we pay our MLA's is for optics only and is a colossal waste of tax dollars. Until we wake up and start voting in independents that isn't about to change either, no matter which "party" wins.

She doesn't "show up" in the legislature indeed, that's her whole government's modus operandi. BC Liberal Government sits in the legislature 36 of 579 days, we need to ask ourselves; is this responsible government?
