JOBS! Jobs! jobs?

yep, lots of 'jobs' - low paying part time jobs:

B.C.’s low-paying job growth doesn’t figure in Christy Clark’s economic story

By Jesse Ferreras
National Online Journalist Global News

Clark’s claims about job creation check out. So do her claims about today’s unemployment — it is currently the lowest in the country.

But those numbers don’t capture the type of work being done by many British Columbians; part-time or full-time for low pay.

Below-average pay

Below-average pay has grown as a share of employment in every year of Christy Clark’s premiership, going from 56.2 per cent in 2011 to 59.8 per cent in 2016.

This trend was first noted in a CIBC report titled “On the Quality of Employment, Part II.”

In it, CIBC deputy chief economist Benjamin Tal looked at employment quality based on compensation for full-time jobs in 100 industry categories.

He found that below-average wage jobs as a share of employment had grown across Canada from 1997 to 2015. The trend was no more apparent anywhere than in B.C., which saw “hardly any growth” among people making more than the average wage, Tal wrote.

B.C.’s below-average work share grew by 1.25 per cent from 2011 to 2016 — it was one of two provinces where it increased while Clark was premier.

There’s some question as to how much credit the BC Liberals should take for job creation.

Pastrick said governments “often take too much credit and too much blame for economic performance driven by external factors.”

He also noted that the Lower Mainland saw 10.8 per cent employment growth while other regions saw “little or no growth” from 2011 to 2016.

Global News then asked her why, if the Liberals had been in office since 2002, the number of head offices in B.C. had shrunk in the past 15 years — a fact that Thompson noted.

^^ I've never bought into the idea that being unemployed is better than working. So not all of the jobs are high paying jobs? That's too bad but in my book it's better to be working and earning money than not working and on unemployment. BC has been better for job growth than any other province and that's a positive and not a negative.

You can see why some NDP'ers on here talk about how wonderful things were in the 1990's before the NDP were almost obliterated in the 2001 election. They see being unemployed as better than working at a job that doesn't pay a high salary. Unrealistic, but that's the NDP for you!

Huh? Your post should be in the "Making things up again" thread. I've never said anything on Twitter. Ever. When proven wrong, either move the goalposts or make stuff up, eh?

Or, whenever proven wrong, bring up the BCNDP of the 1990s.

You should get back on topic and tell us again how people are better off being unemployed than working in jobs that aren't high pay. The Liberals can be criticized for many things but they've done a good job with the economy and with job creation.

and when they last had a chance, all they did was destroy jobs, and the economy. The NDP needs to be disbanded. What a terrible party.

Liberals can be criticized for many things...is certainly right.

So...why vote for them?

Because the other options available are far far worse. Especially the NDP. Their leader is dumber than a bag of hammers. And the entire party is horribly corrupt and rotten to the core. The NDP needs to be disbanded, for the betterment of the entire province of BC.

Repeating the same old mantras just puts
more people, solidly, in the NDP camp.

Protesting too much, again?

Saying "vote NDP" when their entire platform is a dumpster fire of stupidity just puts more people, solidly, in the Liberal and Green camps, and one step closer to the ultimate goal, the entire eradication of the NDP as a party, and the people of BC one step closer to freedom from tyranny and stupidity that the NDP always engenders.

It's great that BC has the highest job growth in the country and the lowest unemployment. It's impossible to spin that good news into a negative. But some of you are trying anyway.
