Look east

Post by Jflem1983 »

Ndp has had Canada's richest province for a while now . Oil prices are rebounding . Alberta's are still hard up . How can anyone say we will survive an ndp election . I fear local housing markets would suffer if the dippers win. Local businesses would likely leave . Our mini boom would be a bust real fast . Just like Alberta . Friends . I say look east . It stinks . It's the ndp
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

Based on what facts? Just saying it because you believe it may be true doesn't make it so. Alberta was in a pile of trouble long before the NDP got into power. I guess the world price of oil is their fault? Get a grip.
Never argue with an idiot, they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I was just on the phone with someone from Calgary. I told him the socialist hordes here have been bragging about how great Alberta is doing under the NDP. He just laughed. "They are toast as soon as we get another election" was his response. I said "why? Don't you know how good you have it??" and he said "They are raising taxes and raising spending. And its stupid spending. We don't want them to do even more damage with another term. They have to go, as soon as possible". Don't believe the lies from the BC NDP.

Now don't get me wrong, if we HAD to have the NDP in BC, I'd take Notley and her Alberta gang every day over the dumpster fire of boneheads we have right now in the BC NDP. But I'd prefer no NDP at all, anywhere, and that's just for the good of mankind.

100% for accuracy. Given the challenges that faced them with the oil price crash and the Ft. Mac wildfires I'd have to say the Alberta NDP have done okay. Criticism from the right in that province is long on vilifying the NDP and woefully short on solutions of their own, which by sheer necessity would have matched the NDP's decisions I suspect. Still, comparing the BC NDP to the Alberta NDP is apples and oranges. BC's economy is healthy by comparison, we really just need to keep heading in the same direction. A "hard about" by the NDP would be folly in that it would lay waste to more than a decade of progress in order to start over in a new and questionable direction.

The bottom fell out of Alberta long before the NDP were in power. Years of neglect , mismanagement , lack of diversification , and horrible royalty deals , by the PC government are well known. That's why the NDP beat them.

Keep in mind that the lion's share of opposition to the Alberta NDP is coming from sour grapes right wingers, the same people that the voters of Alberta unceremoniously dumped in favour of the NDP in 2015, people who don't have much of a grasp on the economic reality of making up for lost oilfield revenue. It is not based on an objective assessment of the NDP's performance through some particularly tough times, it is anger-based character assassination, much like the BC NDP is using against the BC Liberals. A further parallel between the two provinces is that the Alberta conservatives, like the BC NDP, don't have much of a plan of their own.

20 billion in projects shut down or were cancelled the day after she released her first budget . Alberta was employing half of western canada . Your alternate facts aside . Ralph klien paid off a huge deficit and built the heritage fund off 10 dollar oil

True to a point. The meltdown in the energy sector was well under way at the time of the 2015 election. People wanted to blame somebody and the PCs were there. Add to that the fact that Premier Prentice had the gall to suggest that rank & file Albertans help out a bit through things like maybe a sales tax or paying for their medical coverage and his fate was sealed. All of a sudden the NDP's plan to increase taxes on corporations and high income earners sounded pretty good. A province with a four decade history of right wing government was happy to embrace socialism as long as it served their own purpose. Incidentally, those tax increases are still the major crying point in criticism from the right today. There was also a huge degree of shortsightedness in not seeing that this was a global problem beyond local government's ability to do anything but react as best they could. But that's the Canadian way isn't it? We don't elect new governments as much as we fire the old ones.

The NDP won because of a vote split on the right. That's not going to be there next time.

I would keep this in mind if it were true, but reality is Albertans aren't comfortable with the giant spending ramp-ups the NDP are doing, in usual NDP style, like they did in the 1990's in BC and Manitoba recently. Huge ramp-ups, and nothing to show for them. Ever. Other than giant piles of debt.

:spitcoffee:

OH GB! When I read this I almost dropped off my chair. You mean vote splitting defeats governments as well as enables them to win? Like when Gone Fishing slyly encourages people to vote NO-Hope-in-Hell Greens knowing that the leftist vote split will re-elect the BC Liberals.
