I argue car dealers charge $110 per hour because that's what you'll willingly pay. That's the price point you're still getting enough value to make the decision to spend your money on that service.

And I'd then argue that if they try to raise prices much higher due to increased costs such as labour (which is likely under an NDP gov't), you wouldn't pay it. So instead of raising prices (because you're not going to pay more because you don't actually care about costs, you care about prices), they need to cut a cost somewhere to maintain margin. And just like that the service team is 26 guys instead of 30.

It also reflects a great many costs folk like George+ refuse to think about.

Reasonable (but falling behind) pay for the tech, and for the receptionist and the service adviser and the cleaning crew, the accountant and the manager.

Heating, cooling and maintaining the building.

Add carbon tax to the cost of heating and cooling the building, to the cost of maintaining the building.

Marketing and insurance, each involving people earning wages and paying utilities.

And on and on.

What's the dealership to do? Cut the wages? These two parties campaigned on making sure the dealerships will have to pay everyone more.

Cut the cost of the utilities? Again, these two parties campaigned on making sure all dealerships will have to pay more for their utilities, too.

And George+, who supports everything the NDP stands for, has the audacity to complain about his dealership charges per hour!

You need to stop. You obviously don't understand business. Economics is supply and demand. Costs don't factor in. Price is the determining factor in purchasing behavior.

Feel free to prove me wrong and tell me exactly what the cost of goods sold was for the last t-shirt, apple, cell phone, piece of legal advice, tax return software, car tire, and jug of milk you bought. I guarantee you don't know because you don't care. You only care what the price was and whether you were getting good enough value at that price to justify the purchase.

If you didn't pay $110 willingly who stole the money from you? I'm pretty sure you took your car to the shop, they performed a service and you willingly handed over cash or punched in your PIN number. They provided a service that you saw enough value in to purchase said service.

Our new gov't is hell bent on increasing costs for businesses and since you seem to already be fed up with high prices, a company that can't raise prices any higher will have to maintain their margins somehow... and it will come in the form of cutting costs (i.e. people, equipment, etc...).

Are you suggesting that once the lowest person on the totem pole receives a raise, any of the employees wages will go anywhere but up? That between that and the increased carbon tax and the increase in taxes to make up for the lost taxes due to the reduction in utility prices, the cost of your auto repair will go anywhere but up?

This is a pretty good example of the magical thinking that permeates the NDP.

OMG. That's exactly my point. The cost of oil goes down and you don't see prices of gas fall... oil is a part of the equation for the cost of gas. You don't see prices fall because the PRICE of gas isn't based on the COST to produce it. The price is based on what the market will pay.

It's actually riveting to see these people train of thought, if you could call it that, and how out of touch with reality they are. There is no logic, and consequences in their world. It's just if we do "A" then "B" will happen, and that's that. Even with evidence to the contrary staring them in the face. Look at what a complete dumpster fire Ontario is right now. Their electricity costs are out of control and people are having to face eating or heating decisions. And yet here are the Greens and the New Dumbs charging right into the same dumb decisions without heed for how these same decisions have already led to disaster elsewhere. Look at how the day-care plan failed spectacularly in Quebec. Yet here they are, in BC, wanting to do the same dumb thing. Just soooo dumb.
