Kaleden Fire

Post by Fancy »

Castanet is receiving reports of a wildfire in Kaleden, possibly threatening homes.

Witnesses say the fire sparked at around 3:45 p.m., very near the community. Some residents have begun packing their bags. The B.C. Wildfire Service says they have received reports of the fire, but are still gathering information.

You can see the smoke on the Penticton cam.

Here's one of the earliest photos from that cam, taken at 3:42pm, that shows the start of the smoke:

Ignore the timestamp on the photo - it's off by an hour. I just fixed it though, so all new photos should have the correct time/day.

Pretty nuts.

Was working on the yard here in kaleden and all the power died. Then suddenly it seemed like helicopters and water bombers are everywhere. I can stand on the deck and see the massive plumes. Yikes.

This could be real bad. Wind has really picked up and is blowing towards Kaleden. Fire appears to be at south end of the community. Smoke is being blown up the valley past Summerland.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Already quite a difference in that short time-span:

I don't have a front row seat. Want to stay out of emergency crews way. There is a buffer between my place and the fire. Made up of homes :-(

Some local evacs are under way and I was told others have been notified. It's potentially threatening the ostrich farm currently is the last I heard.

People are worried here but the emergency response is impressive. They are hammering it none stop.

One house lost. I've heard second hand of a few more structure fires but take it as that until official news. I'm hearing things from people who went looking and we all know how people love to embellish. Have turned the cars around and loaded up our grab bags in case. Never to be safe. Fire is scary.
