Fire at 33 and Rhone south of Beaverdell

An vehicle accident between a care and a lumber truck has ignited a fire on the hillside beside Hwy 33.

Reports from the area say that fire crews are hitting the area hard with retardant and water drops.

Drive BC:
Closed in both directions 5 km north of Westbridge because of Vehicle Incident. Detour available via Blythe Rhone Road. No commercial vehicles allowed on detour. Alternate route Highway 3 and Highway 97 through Osoyoos. Estimated time of opening is currently not available; Assessment in progress. Next update at 6:00 pm. Updated on Wed Jul 12 at 4:50 pm PDT.

A lot of houses in there hidden in the forest.

You're right Queen. Apparently they're hitting it hard. There are ranchers we know that have their place right next to this. It's scary for all these folks. Especially with the Rock Creek fire from last year so fresh in their minds.

Locals are sharing that the fire area is still smouldering but pretty much fully contained.

The local pizza joint fed the crews last night in appreciation.
