Re: Greyback Mountain/Little White Mountain Fire
Oh, I know that much. I drove Greyback FSR & Canyon Lakes FSR in July (hiked up Little White, I like to do so at least once a year). Fire looks to be between Canyon Lakes FSR & the 201; I'm talking about roads/trails in that specific zone. Can't say I paid much attention to all the little offshoots my last time up.pentona wrote:The road into Greyback lakes is not ditched (except coming up from the old route via Penticton, past the landfill). You could drive a car into the lakes (but I wouldn't); I believe this fire is slightly further North, nearer Canyon Lakes and Little White Mtn. That road (if you can call it a road) is horrible.
IIRC there's a lot of clear cuts there, so I'm hoping that helps keep the fire somewhat at bay.
Your bias suits you.

thanks for the photo but I'm really not sure why this individual feels the need to be in the bush when people are clearly being asked not to be, thanks for that

Re: Greyback Mountain/Little White Mountain Fire
Long ways away, SE of Little White on what we call the back side of the mountain. Air tankers dropped continuously on this fire until afternoon then 6 skimmers worked steady filling from McCulloch Lake. Heavy equipment, water tenders and crews working on it.
I was surprised at the resources heading that way on short notice when we are already so scrapped for crews and equipment. No one can say Fire Control are dragging their feet.

Re: Greyback Mountain/Little White Mountain Fire
How do they get heavy equipment up there if the roads are so poor?

Does anyone know of lightening happening out that way? There was just a massive flash across the east sky like something just blew up...nothing since that happened, so unsure if it was lightening?

Re: Greyback Mountain/Little White Mountain Fire
Just checked the lightning map and nothing, at least nothing to ground.
Not problem to lowbed equipment from Penticton or from Kelowna of the 201 FSR. The fire is not far off the main FSR and there is road access.
