Finally some rain.. in the Okanagan anyways. Lightning too

Post by brandon_18 »

Finally a bit of rain. Hopefully it helps out the fire situation a little bit. Only concerning thing is I keep seeing lightning strikes all around Kelowna.

Here in the BX area of vernon, it's a steady drizzle with no lightning.

ya there was a quite a bit here too. Still lightning strikes about one every 5-6 minutes. Looks like it is coming from Glenmore or Winfield area.

It was a fairly narrow but long thunderstorm band that moved north north-east across the central okanagan. Looks like no rain at the Brenda mines and Joe rich but quite a decent downpour between those areas. Looks like finlay creek got soaked.
I don't think the lightning will really matter much at this point. The fire season typically ends quite abruptly and I think this is it.

It's so dry out there though. A bit of rain isn't gonna be enough to soak everything....

It doesn't really take much rain once we get late into the fire season. Later afternoon recovery times combined with some rain usually brings things to an end pretty quickly.

In terms of fire control ... not much rain. Couple warm days and we are dry again. Certainly the higher humidities and good overnight recoveries help a lot also. I will get a good idea of how wide spread the rain was on Kelowna side of the Zone on my patrol tomorrow.

Remember folks the campfire ban is still on, as well as no ATV's and stay to main roads in the back country. A bit more rain and possibly the ATV and road restrictions would change.

We really need a widespread rain lasting a couple of days instead of these scattered showers.

Everywhere I traveled on Saturday received a good splash of rain. Today the roads are already dusty. The grass in the mornings is wet from the overnight recovery and at the high elevations is still wet in the afternoon. Hopefully some more rain on the way soon.
