to be fair, most bright days I can only see those flashing lights from a km away even knowing where they are.
However to give you a idea. At 100km, if I take my foot off the throttle at that point, without my engine compression brake and go through all 18 gears I can come to a complete stop before that stopsign. Even when I am pulling a Super-B loaded at 105% (under permit for the extra weight ) as long as the road is level. I do it all the time.

too bad that story is 13 years old, and this story about Delta Driving School says the charges were dropped 4 years ago.

I do believe it is still happening, but I can not find any recent proof.
I do hope Transport Canada starts investigating more of these schools.
I would also like to see an apprenticeship program put in place, requiring every new driver to team up with a qualified seasoned driver for at least a year. Then at least they have someone to wake up and advise them when a situation arises.
I got my class 1 licence 7 years ago, and I am still learning more every year.

I saw a picture of the intersection and on the secondary road there is a sign before the stop sign showing towns either north or south and the distance to them. So this another warning sign before the stop sign that somethings ahead....

Not trying to explain or suggest that I know something that others don't but I had a situation right here in Kelowna several years back where I absolutely blew through a stop sign downtown that I didn't even register seeing.
Obviously, very thankful that no one was approaching from the other artery because it could have been bad.
100% my fault but it goes to show that, just because it's there, doesn't mean it was seen.

I agree. we've all been guilty of making mistakes driving. In saying that though, if you would have been invoved in an accident at that time. would you not have come forward and said, "I'm sorry, 100 percent my fault". And explain what happened, or would you wait for an accident team to come up with there conclusion?

Who knows what the truck driver said at the time but just because he may have said he didn't see the sign doesn't take away the responsibility of blowing through it nor does it negate the investigation's efforts to determine what all the facts are. Don't forget the truck driver was also involved in the accident and there will be ill effects and even the possibility of misinterpreting what happened.

I don't think the trees should be used as an excuse for limited visibility since basic road rules weren't followed.

Re: Sask. Bus Accident
Would be interesting to know if there are skid marks from the bus and how soon he tried to stop. You would think he would have seen the truck approaching the intersection and anticipated that he wasn't going to stop.
I always scan intersections as I approach them and never assume that everyone else is going to obey the signs. Often covering my brake.
Defensive driving is the only way to survive out there on the highways.

From an earlier post:
Regarding who hit who, one of the survivors said he’d heard the bus driver screaming and slamming on the brakes. That sounds exactly like someone trying to avoid hitting a truck that had blown a stop sign.

there would have been only a second to react if that, as they wouldn't have seen the semi coming.

Not sure if anyone has posted this:
Here is an aerial view of the crash site https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/04/0 ... _23405664/
So everything ending up in northwest corner of crossroads/intersection.

Re: Sask. Bus Accident
The entire trucking industry coast to coast is a unregulated joke. It may seem relevant to how many hours or kms the driver had
done 'in the logbook'. I don't know the situation with this driver ,but I'm willing to bet his real work time and his logbook time probably don't jive. Humans make mistakes bigtime working the hours trucking companies want. They expect 80 hours/week, min 13 hrs/day, with a fudged logbook to show 70 hours. That's just driving hours sometimes. A rounder to the coast and back usually has a hour or two before the trip and a hour or more after the trip not included (or paid) in the logbook cuz the trip can't be done without fudging. Who knows what this guys work week was like, or the last time he had a decent sleep.

Some may view my politically incorrect opinions as harsh and may be offended by them. Some think political correctness will be our undoing.
