Exact same scenario - let's hope that the fact that a great majority of the trees are no longer standing, should prevent the jumping and spreading through the tree tops that caused it to move so fact last time.

Have to been in the Park over in that area? There is a lot of unburnt trees and an absolute ton of fuel on the forest floor. All the deadfall from 15 years ago is just waiting to ignite again.

Extremely tough terrain to fight from the ground, there will be an intense air show tomorrow forsure.

Yes, I have.
I did not say that ALL of the trees were down....but the majority are.
I am well aware that there is still plenty of fuel on the ground.
It was not the ground fire that assisted in the rapid spread of the 2003 fire - it was the fire jumping across ravines from the tree tops.
Less trees equals less chance of that happening again.

There are a lot of houses south of Bertram Creek Park...which is where the evacuation alert is

I'd say wind is blowing from the West more now. Like I said, maybe wishful thinking but smoke appears to be blowing back over fire, or at least uphill and no longer toward the Mission.

"An evacuation alert has been ordered by the Emergency Operations Centre after a wildfire in Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park has spread after being left untended for almost 24 hours."


Yes, how deja vu from 2003. They let that initial fire unattended.

Then 80 houses in my neighbourhood of Crawford Estates burnt to the ground. And another 150+ in the Chute Lake neighbourhood.

That's actually how Castanet got it's start, specifically the forums. I was on here 21/7 talking to others who were going through it with me.

I was evacuated twice. Spent a good 3 weeks at the Accent Inn (thanks for the suite that accepted dogs) and home for a few days and back to the Accent again for another few.
