I hope that's the case but maybe you can't see flames because it is now light out. I went down to the bottom of Cadder to the lake when it was dark and the Peacland fire was quite visible but once the sun came up all I could see was smoke.
"Let there be smoke." And there was smoke. And it was gooooooood.

Heading from Kelowna to Summerland...
Fire is right up to Seclusion Bay Road by Gormans Mill.
Across the lake doesn't look much better.

They are now saying that this fire is over 200 Hectares in size. Several houses are on evacuation alert. Any pictures or updates on this fire?

It’s really smoky in Kettle Valley this morning. Visibility over towards the fire is poorer than last night but the smoke was going up yesterday. I can’t tell if the fire is weakening or if the lack of wind is just causing smoke to settle in up here.

Would sure be nice to hear an official update.

We've always had hot, dry summers and we've always had dry lightning, but the fires and resulting smoke in the 21st century seem to be so much worse than in the last century (or at least the last half of it). Is it the way that fires are looked upon and fought these days that makes us endure these horrible fires and smoke every summer now?

What's changed is human population growth. 100 years ago these fires where in the middle of nowhere...now a fire can't start without it threatening a human settled area in any direction. 100 years ago Kelowna had a population of roughly 3000...now its about 125,000. All those areas burning were far from populated areas and at times were left to burn...now all those areas are interface areas so they have to be fought.

The thing is, I'm not talking about 100 years ago, I'm talking about the nineties. Prior to the 2003 fire it was fairly unsusual to have any significant forest fire smoke in the valley. IIRC we'd had some the year before (2002) from a fire in elsewhere that we thought was quite bad, little did we know. Now it seems like we have serious smoke pollution here every year. You wouldn't know it by Environment Canada of course, they think that our choking, downwind of the fire air quality this morning is a 3, or "low risk". ETA The provincial website site now has us at a 10+. Good to see someone has it right.

I guess at this point there are spot fires everywhere?
Fire on both sides of the Hwy.
Fire on both sides of the lake.

The bigger fire on the west side of the lake is above Antler Beach. There is also one above seclusion bay.

If you 'read accurately', I mentioned that we were just driving from Kelowna to Summerland and this is what WE are seeing.

Lots of ash on decks this morning in the Mission, no idea what to do to prepare ( I guess I could pack and unpack nervously. Gave everything a good hosing, brought in the cushions, glad to read that Accent Inn takes doggies.
