Still calling units out - Lake Country Tender just paged to head to staging at Greata Ranch.

More evacs;

https://www.castanet.net/edition/news-s ... htm#231749

An evacuation order was issued for six additional homes along Highway 97, a home at 365 Callan Road, and 27 homes from 429 - 528 North Beach Road. All evacuated properties are just south of Okanagan Lake Provincial Park, which was evacuated earlier.

If evacuating OK Lake Park, creeping close to Summerland now...

Losing homes is awful, but the Greata property would be awful to lose (now Fitzpatrick)

Really bad news for Summerland if the heavy NW winds come as forecasted, given that the fire is NW of town.

State of emergency declarations largely have to do with accessing extra funding and services. Which is not to say this is not an emergency, but the declaration doesn't mean things have gotten worse.

Maybe it's just me but I'm thinking the district of Summerland should post evacuation orders on a page other than the one advertising "Discover Summerland". :D

Wind in Naramata now about 10-15 knots from the North. Mt. Eneas is starting to flair up again. Can't see the fire to the north of Naramata. Smoke heading south as well. I did see the first "heavy" helicopter ( S-61) head north an hour or so ago with the 800 usg bucket hanging under it.
These fire are putting a wrench into so many aspects. A wedding cancelled at Greata, friend in the tourist industry is taking a bit of a hit. I have a property transaction pending and nothing until the insurance companies don't see any red dots on a fire map within 20 kms. people travelling on Hwy 97 north south for medical appointments. Long ways around.
I realize this is trivial( minor inconvenience really) compared to those fighting the fire, those on evacuation alert and order, just so many aspects to a fire's impact.
Hope we don't hear of any personal injuries. Be safe out there ladies and gentlemen.

Road just closed..... indefinitely ....wasn't there a back road travelers used about 10 yrs ago when there was a large slide that closed the highway? Hubby works in Penticton and would love to get home! I was sure there was a forestry road that I remember people using?

Yes, that road is there but you would be driving through the heart of the fire.

Penticton——-> Princeton ———-> Connector ———> West Kelowna

Safest bet.
