The 2018 Mother of All Fires

Post by Glacier »

The three big fires in Tweedsmuir Park have now combined into a single monster fire some 80,000 hectares in size. That's 2.5 times larger than any other fire ever recorded in the Coastal Fire Centre. The fire is so large that it could very well burn into 4 of the 6 fire centre territories in BC. It's currently burning in the Coastal and Northwest Fire Centres and sits just west of the Prince George and Cariboo fire zones.

Also, it's in a remote area of a provincial park, so it's only receiving a modified response for now. It would have to burn a long ways to hit any homes in that remote area.

Shovel lake is getting to be almost that large just on it's own - it's currently listed at 68,375 hectares, up from 14,600 on Monday.

Hi lucy33, zoom in on this map: https://governmentofbc.maps.arcgis.com/ ... 65dbcd7538

The red shaded areas are evacuation orders and the orange shaded areas are the evaluation alerts.

The Tweesmuir fire is now at 270,000 hectares. Rains are coming though, so I don't expect it to get much bigger than that.
