Viability was down to 0.8 km for much of yesterday in Williams Lake, and Quesnel was down to 0.0 km.

Smoke blocking flights

Wildfire smoke is impacting flights flying in and out of Kelowna International Airport.

YLW said Sunday morning that passengers are advised to check their flight status on their airline’s website before arriving at the airport.

Five flights departing from Kelowna have been cancelled so far and five flights expected to arrive in Kelowna have been cancelled.

Air quality across the Okanagan Valley is currently at a very high risk and it's expected to stay that way until Monday.

Conditions could improve Monday as it is forecasted to drop to a moderate risk and a six out of 10.

For information on flights out of YLW visit this link.

Have about .5 km visibility just north of Penticton.
Thinking of a drive up Apex.
Anyone know if the smoke thins out up there?

From the link that ferri posted it looks like the smoke will almost go completely away tomorrow. Some sort of weather system coming from the kootenays is going to blow it to the southwest.

… and that's the type of day it was.

I love it when a forecast comes together. I know it doesn't look like it, but things have improved and will continue to do so for the next couple of days. The Tweedsmuir smoke train has both ameliorated and is being dragged off shore and sent down over Vancouver island at almost all levels in the atmosphere. Unfortunately, that's not the only fire and there is still lots of smoke trapped down on the surface by this dome. It's traveling around trapped in the valley bottoms. The models I'm looking at suggest it should be getting better all day with an even bigger improvement starting later this evening.

Tuesday the air starts moving again. For the good, or the bad remains to be seen.

Yep, we don't have as much vertically integrated smoke as yesterday, so it's better up here now. The sun actually looks like the sun today, as opposed to the pale red dot I saw all day yesterday. Meanwhile, down in the valley it hasn't changed much since yesterday (just got back from a run into town - eww)
