Yes, or take a holiday. That's why they're almost always on a long weekend. My teacher friends tell me that they take their professional development in the summer so they get those days off during the school year.

Ridiculous. On the bright side, commuting to work on Tuesday will be easier. Possibly Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as well. Seems to be the norm for parents to keep kids out of school because it’s a useless week anyway and/or on holidays I’m off the following Monday so good luck everyone

Totally agree that pro d on the first day of school is stupid, but that decision comes from board office admin (superintendent etc.) not teachers.
If a teacher went on a holiday rather than attend pro d they would be suspended without pay.
The Kelowna teachers do pro d in the summer to have time off during the school year but the instructional days for students are the same regardless. They don't get extra days off

With all the new teachers, the union has to gather them all together and give them instruction in how to turn our children into entitled leftists.
