i took my 12 year old son with me to vote this morning. we are in westbank and it wasnt the biggest election in the world but im always going to go cast my vote. i used it as an opportunity to talk to the boy about the importance of voting and how everyone in the world doesnt have the same rights as canadians. he has gone to vote with me before and he thinks its cool. im just hoping it makes an impression that sticks with him as an adult and he goes to cast his own votes

It does make a difference to show your kids what it is all about and explain the importance of our freedom, my adult kids learned at an early age also.

My kids voted - their first civic election. Daughter's comment "everyone here is OLD"

I would suspect there was something that didnt jive or something said at the time. Young people vote with the same ID so something doesnt add up.

When I went to vote one person at the table said I needed something with my signature, not realizing that drive licences have signatures--fortunately the other person at the table knew they have signatures and I was able to vote.

Yes, thats why I was using it, but the one person, of the two working for the election, said it wasn't acceptable but the other person knew it was and it was accepted.

Absolutely I voted…it is very sad to think that maybe only 1/3 of eligible voters did so.
Re: the young person's driver's licence…did it have a current Kelowna address?
Re: signature on licence…I had to look twice to see that yes indeed my signature was on my licence.

First time for us not to. chronic illness catching up. A little consolation in knowing our 2 votes would not have made a difference.

I think its more frightening (though I wouldn't have used that word) to think a person asking to do that job would not know the requirements of proper identification to vote.

Certainly seems that most people in Kelowna just went out and voted for the people that were already there (or just names that they recognised) versus knowing what each candidate had on offer ... was hoping to see a bit more variety on council this time around ... but I've been disappointed before ...
