Tom Dyas says he's happy how his campaign turned out, despite losing to incumbent Colin Basran in the race for mayor of Kelowna.

"As we can see from the results, we were successful in obtaining around 30 per cent of the votes and about 10,000 people supported us," Dyas said Saturday night.

Dyas was the leading challenger, and many thought it would be a closer race, Dyas included.

"Yes, I was a bit surprised by the numbers. Obviously, we were hoping we would win, that is why we were in this race.

"Whether I Iook at winning or losing this mayor's race, I wanted to bring things forward because what I had experienced was trying to address issues within this community, and they were falling upon deaf ears... maybe that will change," he said.

Dyas says he will need a breather to decide if he'll be back next time.

"I'm going to head to Phoenix, maybe Palm Springs," he said, noting he stepped straight from the Memorial Cup bid into the election race.

"Those have not been short days, so what is next for me? A little bit of a breather."

I was really hoping Dyas would win. I think I need a mental break from all this, can’t imagine how he feels!

Now it’s time to accept that someone with Marxist, left ideologies is running this city and to hope and pray that he does a good job despite such a different world view.

Dyas didn’t have a chance. Surprised he got as many votes as he did.
The last four years went fairly smooth, according to the people because Basran overwhelmingly got the vote for another 4 years.
Nothing wrong with having some ideologies from “left”. It would be great to live in a world where socialism worked, but unfortunately people will always be greedy and find a way to capitalize on anything.

Dyas is a clown and the city would be doomed. But deserve a break, ha. He did almost nothing for the memorial cup and it is not a hard project. I bid on things all day long, do I get a couple months in palm springs

He really should have stressed more during his campaigning just how difficult being a single dad is, what with having to make lunches at 6AM and doing laundry at 10PM....

He's a dad, and he's single. That doesn't mean he single handedly raised those kids. Mom is in the picture. I don;t think we've seen the last of him, though. Sure he can't bump Carmen Sparg from Chamber President, but I highly doubt Ms. Sparg makes her decisions without some strong suggestions from the Old Boys Club that runs that outfit.

Some advise Tom Dyas. Take a very long break from politics ( forever ) because it is obvious in so many ways you are not cut out to be a politician.
Stick to your day job.
