Vernon Balloon Glow Cancelled

Post by kiabird »

How sad.

Castanet story explained reasons were: soft ground at Polson Park, lack of parking (has there ever been enough parking?), and
"but City of Vernon Parks Department requirements were too expensive for the glow in the new location."

Why isn't City of Vernon providing them with a FREE spot?
We pay taxes for wonderful events like this, all part of Winter Carnival.

I hope Vernon's new mayor immediately cancels the COST to all the folks who bring their balloons for Winter Carnival.
This is part of Vernon's culture!
Obviously the city needs a reminder.

I seem to remember a group of Lower East Hill residents whining about the Balloon Glow a few years back. Seems like the NIMBYs got their way again.

There'll always be NIMBYs.
But the City of Vernon charging them a FEE to land/take off from City owned property is disgusting.
Why not the Racetrack site now that the court case is over? And FREE!

Uh its pretty normal to charge a park use fee for special events. I think its $185
They also need to have a special event permit and liability insurance

All reasonable things a city should demand to avoid chaos and deterioration in our parks.

In the article they list 4 reasons why it will not go on, why are you just focusing on one?

I think the fact they admitted they did not have the "manpower" seems to be the largest reason.
