Trudeau will not release a costing of his election promises

Liberals REFUSING To Release Independent Costing Of Campaign Promises: Blacklock’s

SEPTEMBER 17, 2019

So open! So transparent!

The Trudeau Liberals are refusing to release an independent costing of their campaign promises.

The Parliamentary Budget Office is costing the campaign promises of all the major parties, and the Conservatives, NDP, and Greens have said they will release the numbers.

But the Liberals won’t be doing so.

As reported by Blacklock’s, the Liberals will not be releasing the independently costed numbers:

“Libs won’t disclose Budget Office costing of #elxn43 promises, only big party to do so.”

It is outrageous that the Liberals – who once said they would be running the ‘most open and transparent’ government, are now hiding the independent costing of their promises.

If this is true, the Trudeau Liberals are showing they've committed to being the party of "something to hide".

According to G&M, they will be submitting to the PBO for costing once the full platform is released, rather than piecemeal. Whether this comes to pass is another thing...

The campaign is 8 days old. I think we can give the Liberals a little bit longer to cost it out, as we should for other parties.

One of these stories is 'fake news". It will be interesting to see if this is yet another Con disinformation scheme.

eta: What the partisan CONS will try and argue is that Trudeau “refuses” to cost their promises, when it has been made clear on multiple occasions that a fully-costed platform is a week, maybe two away. Big deal. Should he actually follow through and deliver on that the partisan Cons here are once again going to look pretty darn foolish. Not defending Trudeau but I’m only going to attack him on what is real, like his handling of the SNC Lavalin affair as one example. All these trivial issues only serve to deflect from the real issues – although the “brownface, blackface” issue is not going to go away soon.

Yes, that's what a non-partisan totally neutral person would worry about - not if the Liberals refuse to cost their insane promises, but if this is a "disinformation scheme". Just ridiculous.

This is from the CBC:
Justin Trudeau's Liberals have "gamed" a process the party itself created to increase the transparency of fiscal promises during elections, an economist says.

In their 2015 platform, the Liberals pledged to expand the mandate of the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) to include the estimated costs of various campaign commitments. They said at the time it "would help Canadians make informed decisions" and give voters a "credible, non-partisan way to compare each party's fiscal plans."

The proposal was enshrined in legislation after the Liberals formed government, making the current election campaign the first under the PBO's expanded mandate.

Unlike the Tories and New Democrats, however, the Liberals have so far neglected to release PBO estimates for the nearly $4 billion worth of campaign promises they've made to date.

There's more. Lots more.

The Trudeau Liberals keep things hidden from scrutiny as long as possible. No different here.
