Excellent, so an attack on Canada is also an attack on the USA. We are doubly protected
There has been no draft since the 70’s, and they won’t likely take anyone over the age of 35 for first time service. So the US draft isn’t a real issue.

Hold on there. Please provide evidence that the Conservative Party of Canada posted those posters.

Yes, he asked those questions. Think critically about this. At the time he asked them, Jean was actively maintaining both citizenships. Scheer was not. We don't know how his constituents answered. Maybe he got a big "she should renounce", maybe folk said "OMG, France!! but if it was the US, no big deal" (or vice versa), maybe he got a big "you guys are idiotic for making a big deal out of Ignatieff and Jean, this isn't Australia", maybe he got a big "meh". People en masse in Canada were arguing about whether or not it mattered, and most Canadians didn't thing it was that big a deal, just another politically manufactured outrage. That sort of boogeyman nonsense didn't endear the Conservatives to me then, nor does it endear the Liberals now.

Think critically about this, too: Scheer held a passport as a child. It lapsed. People are playing this, hoping folk will make the assumption you've made. I, personally, hate discovering I've allowed myself to be manipulated. So I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you're able to provide proof he and his spokespeople actually lied about not having maintained his US passport as an adult, I'll think less of him for the lies. Lying about this is both unnecessary and pointless.

And as I said before, it's still gonna take a lot more than this to convince me Scheer is a worse risk than Trudeau.

Was she actively maintaining both? Do you happen to have a source for that. Scheer has know since he was a child that he had dual citizenship. He knew it when he made the original blog post. Did he think no one would find out? He said he would renounce his US citizenship when he became leader. He knew the election was coming. Yet, he waited until a few short months ago to even start the process.
I have never said he lied about it. I have only said he is a total hypocrite for what he accused others of while he himself was in the exact same state.

However, like the Trudeau blackface bull these silly news stories change no ones mind. I would bet that both parties had this all stuck away in a back pocket somewhere and were just waiting for an election to get the wheels going when an election was called.

There was a drop in the polls for the liberals when the blackface story came out and there is a very slight drop in the polls for the Conservatives now that this has come out. As the Liberal story lost steam the polls went back to where they were before and I expect the polls to also return to where they were before this came out. No one really cares.

As I said, it is not the dual citizenship that people talk about, it is his hypocrisy.

I'm not so sure this is going to be a "hiccup story" that passes in the coming days. I suspect there will be more to it and this is another case of how the heck did this get past the vetting process?

For example, the story of MP Randell Garrison who took part in a parliamentary delegation to Washington in March of 2017. He was ineligible to enter the US on a Canadian passport because, as he found out, he was a US citizen. It cost him $3,000 to sort out the administrative requirements and he was allowed in on a one time basis. (Red flagish, or just a one off weird US customs thing? I don't know.)

The other bump in the road, that might be coming with this story, is around taxes. May stated her renunciation of US citizenship was quick and easy, however, renouncing US citizenship does not negate obligations to the IRS and the internet is filled with stories that suggest it might not be a simple task.

Latest I've seen is that Mr. Scheer has filed taxes in the US, but won't disclose how often, other than to say he's been tax compliant.

Weird, what is it about Americans running for top office and their tax returns?

ETA: Sorry didn't offer the link to the story suggesting US citizens can't travel to the US on Canadian passports. It's buried in here, https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/dual-c ... -1.4439522

What "transgression" did he commit, and why should he apologize? This is ludicrous.

So, we now know that Andrew Scheer is an American citizen.

US citizens are required by US law to file tax returns each year with the IRS and pay taxes regardless of where they reside.

Scheer and his lackeys refuse to disclose how many tax returns Scheer has filed.

The guess is Scheer owes Uncle Sam a substantial amount of money and penalties on his substantial earnings at the public trough since he was 25 years old.

The renunciation of his US citizenship cannot go forward until he settles with the IRS.

Could you imagine the bad deals for Canada Scheer would make with the Trump administration for the forgiveness of this debt?

This really stinks.

Andy probably doesn't owe the US anything. It's likely he never earned a cent down there and he did file, we hope, in Canada. What is totally indefensible about his dual citizenship is that he criticized Michaelle Jean, Stephane Dion, and Thomas Mulcair for holding dual citizenship and holding office in Canada. Jean as Governor-General. Dion and Mulcair as MPs and leader of the Opposition....... the same role Scheer himself held.

There is no defense for his criticism of them while he was in the same circumstance. This is on top of his evasive answers to whether the abortion issue will be re-opened if he becomes PM. Just can't believe him. Or Justin. Time to look elsewhere.

I heard a stat that there were a large number of MPs with dual citizenship. This is the only link I could find to confirm that

https://rightforcanada.ca/right-for-canada-videos/canadas-dual-citizen-politicians/

There are now at least 56 sitting parliamentarians — 44 MPs and 12 senators — born in countries outside Canada, according to information from the Library of Parliament and websites.

At least 22 of them have citizenship from other countries, CBC News confirmed through queries to parliamentarians’ offices.

That figure does not include MPs and senators who hold citizenship through descent, naturalization or marriage.

Canadian MPs hold citizenship from various countries, including Afghanistan, Lebanon, Portugal, Poland, Pakistan, Syria, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Personally, while dual citizenship is fine for most of our population I don't believe that any sitting politician should have it - I believe it is potentially a conflict for interest. IMO, if you are committed to a country enough to run for office, then you need to be ONLY committed to that country. Otherwise, you have divided loyalties.

Trudeau is a lying buffoon who is spending us into the ground, and I don't trust Scheer. So I'm voting PPC.
I haven't failed until I quit.

People with American citizenship are required to file with the IRS and pay taxes annually regardless of where they reside and earn the money.

My guess is Scheer hasn't been paying his US taxes. However, he did have to file a US return when he renounced his US citizenship.

My other guess is he now owes Uncle Sam a crippling amount of back taxes and penalties and this is what's holding up his renunciation.
