Right !!! ... I forgot about that, so the Speaker could be the "tie breaker"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaker_o ... ns_(Canada)

Tie-breaking votes
On May 19, 2005, the Speaker was required to cast the tie-breaking vote during a confidence measure for the first time in Canadian history. Faced with the defeat of Paul Martin's minority government, Milliken voted in favour of the NDP budget amendment. Despite popular belief that the Speaker, as a Liberal MP, would automatically support the government, his vote was pre-determined by other factors. As Speaker, Milliken's vote must be cast to allow the continuation of debate, or to maintain the status quo, a reflection of Speaker Denison's rule practiced in the British House of Commons. Thus, the Speaker voted in favour of second reading, "to allow the House time for further debate so that it can make its own decision at some future time."[13] The bill would later pass third reading without the need for Milliken's vote.

Speakers have only needed to vote in order to break a tie 11 times in Canadian parliamentary history. Milliken did so on five occasions, more than all previous Speakers combined.

why not? They totally figured out that they were duped, and that's why they punted the NDP out.

Remind us about what? I don't see anyone, including myself, saying that Scheer should be the PM right now. Everyone is respecting the process, and the system. So you can remind us that Hillary won the popular vote all you want, but you also should back it up by saying that there are people who stupidly also said that Hillary should be president, and the system should be changed. No one is saying that the Canadian system should be changed, or that Scheer should be Prime Minister right now. The hypocrisy all lies with the people who always want things to change if it's not in their favour, but then do not want things changed when it does go in their favour.

Prediction - not one TDS lunatic who thinks Hillary should be president of the US will ever have the cajones to apply the same logic to Canada.

LOL - "hardly comparable" - even though the US has 10x the population and so 10x the number of voters and votes cast.

Interesting numbers to keep in mind:
The Most Important Numbers Hidden in the Canadian Election Results
There's one good reason for Liberals to try to keep this minority parliament running for the next two years and it's all about getting paid.

6 years
Returning MPs have an extra reason to celebrate. Not only will they have an annual salary of $178,900 a year, paid for by all of us collectively, but after six years (which will kick in halfway through this four-year term if it lasts that long) they’ll be eligible for a six-figure pension for life. That’s plenty of motivation not to dissolve Parliament before then, especially if you are a Liberal.

10 percent
Another big winner is SNC Lavalin and its shareholders. The company’s stock was up more than 10 percent Tuesday morning as investors digested what a Trudeau win means for the company going forward.

This kind of shows how there is a divergence of desired direction in Canada. Many ridings in western Canada voted 70 to 86% Conservative, the highest ever for many ridings. In one riding the 2nd place candidate NDP only had 5% of the vote, with many others at under 10%.

Popular vote by province (with differences from Harper majority in 2011).

B.C. 34.0 (-11.5)
Alberta 69.2 (+2.4)
Saskatchewan 64.3 (+8)
Manitoba 45.8 (-7.7)
Ontario 33.2 (-11.2)
Quebec 16.0 (-0.5)
N.B. 32.8 (-11.1)
N.S. 25.1 (-11.6)
Nfld 28.1 (-0.3)
PEI 27.4 (-13.8)

Yes, I do! What a great MP we have. Glad we finally booted out that soft on child porn guy back in 2005. He sucked.

“Conservatives win the popular vote.

Prediction:

Not one Leftist demands that Canada go to proportional representation. Of course not.”

“Singh, who anticipates working more closely with the Liberals in the upcoming Parliament, says he plans to push for a proportional representation system, which would have given his party more seats based on its 16 per cent slice of the popular vote.”

Given the recent NDP surge, I'm no longer predicting a liberal majority. We will either see a liberal minority, or a coalition/confidence of Liberals, NDPs, and Greens.

Looks like I was correct. Liberal minority, and 0 seats for PPC. NDP surge only manifested outside Quebec though, and they lost the province to the BQ.

I don't think I was really "wrong again", firstly because Singh is a communist, not a Leftist, and also, I believe that I meant that not one Leftist on Castanet would say they wanted proportional representation. I honestly don't remember posting that, or what I was thinking at the time. I was too busy getting hammered, as once again Canada pulled a major league *bleep* and we are now stuck with our idiot in chief JT.

Also - to be wrong "again", I'd have to be wrong a first time. Not sure I can recall that ever actually happening, but it probably has somewhere.

Looking back at your posts in just this thread...let’s see..

Yes it will be interesting on Oct 22nd when the Conservatives are able to get into the books

First sentence of first post...well that didn’t take long.
