Watched it live on HNC, agreed with everything he said. As a first generation Canadian, my immigrant grandparents and parents on both sides proudly wore poppies and acknowledged regularly how grateful they were to be in Canada. While Cherry has to take the heat on this one, as the angry old man, and the idiot Left no doubt will express their usual faux outrage in their constant pursuit of a warm tummy, at the very least let's hope this ignites some conversation, and wakes up some national attention on this worthy conversation.

We live in an age of irony. It's ironic that as we honour the veterans who served to preserve our freedoms we tend to pounce on someone who exercises those freedoms. Don Cherry is very abrasive and I wouldn't have made the comments that he did. But he has a point.

People have the right not to wear a poppy, people have the right to criticize those who choose not to wear a poppy, and people who don't like the criticism have the right to criticize the criticizers.

Is Don Cherry Xenophobic? I don't know but last night's comments were about those who choose not to wear poppies. He was reminding people, in his blunt way, that the freedoms that they enjoy and the quality of life that they enjoy are due in part to the sacrifices of the veterans. Is he all wrong? I think not.

We live in the Twitter world now where someone says something that doesn't fit the acceptable narrative and people go into attack mode. Did I like it when Don Cherry lambasted the Canadian government for not joining Americans in the disastrous Iraq war? No, I thought he was way off base and history has proven that he was but he had the right to say what he did. Of course, I think he'd be much better off sticking to hockey!

Wth is wrong with all the snowflakes in the world today. Now somebody making an observation is a racist. Get a life and just stop the BS. I am overly tired of this crap that is going on. They are trying to outlaw free thought and Free Speech now?. All of you mamby-pamby snowflakes out there in the world. Just give it a rest and grow up. Somebody can't make an observation without someone being offended well too damn bad. It is truly getting out of hand

Good points as always Urbane. Don Cherry is actually guilty of committing a much bigger sin in the eyes of the PC warm tummy crowd. He is proud of Canada. And he says it loudly. This to the garbage ears of the brain-dead leftist is called "nationalism", and it is a giant PC sin. No one is supposed to feel pride in their country anymore. It's all about one big global community. That's all that's allowed.

Don had a very good point, you don't have to agree with it but there was nothing offensive about the remark.

I listened to the entire statement and have no problem with it at all.

Then again I'm not part of the present left wing snowflake ( wiki def: overly-emotional, easily offended, and unable to deal with opposing opinions) generation. They are the truly offensive humans. Their mere existence is offensive. But they are allowed their opinion, regardless of how moronic and misplaced their asinine perception of reality truly is.

There will be so many of these subhumans beaking off about racism and other nonsensical labels to make the news for weeks. The faux outrage from the weak kneed overly sensitive politically correct virtue signalling imbeciles is nonstop in the current media. The media searches for the slightest miscue and jumps to exaggerate the importance and incite outrage. All so the snowflakes don't become upset.

Don has always been controversial, especially to the weak minded, and will continue. I hope he keeps up speaking his mind without fear from the left wing apologists that have tried to force their agenda upon everyone.
No free speech allowed because someone may get offended. Too bad so sad for those so easily offended. Boo hoo.

I see where he’s coming from, but why single out immigrants? What about those who are third or fourth generation Canadians who do not wear a poppy? All you have to do is walk through the mall or downtown and you’ll see that probably only four out of every ten people is wearing a poppy. I’m more disappointed in the long-time Canadians than the immigrants for not honouring the war dead.

I'm an immigrant and wear a poppy. I think Don Cherry's mindset is "when in Rome..." And there is nothing wrong with that. I feel that changing the traditional RCMP uniform to placate certain new members is wrong. That is an opinion I'm not afraid to state... Sad world when we begin to fear stating our opinions.

Coaches Corner was only part of hnic I didn't care for... back in the day I actually preferred Howie Meeker.

I'll agree with you on one thing. There is no shortage of precious little snowflakes that need to retreat to their safe space while they melt down and validate their own opinions. I don't see them as sub human. In fact, their hyper emotional response to anything that threatens their own perception, suggests they are very human. Just too emotionally immature to engage with other people in a respectful manner and without attacking the dignity of the person they perceive as not aligned with their own belief system.

I suspect it's simply a lack of insight. It's sad really. I feel pity for those people, because I can only imagine how deeply wounded they really are as humans. :smt045
