My family Doctor is quitting

sigh, said she couldn't find anyone to take over her practice. I am an easy patient and want someone in Kelowna, not West K if you know anyone accepting new patients

I’ve heard from a few people that there is a bulletin board at the ER at KGH of family doctors accepting new patients, worth a call maybe?

Hint: Don't tell them you are "low maintenance". They are only allowed to a certain number of patients, they want the ones that are going to make the greatest number of visits/year.

I;m annoyed because a few months ago my appt was cancelled as she was off to South Africa, could have told me then instead of waiting til the last minute

She (your Dr) should have at least set up a few Dr.'s that are accepting new patients.
A buddy of mine is losing his Dr. after 30+ years, his Dr. had a list of docters taking new patients.

this sucks Norma :( it just happened to me too..

what I ended up having to do was call all the Walk in Clinic's and see if any doctors were taking on any new patients and I did find one...he's ok but not near as good as my old doctor...

as for telling them that you're low maintenance, say that..I did , that's what they actually want...doc basically said so when he interviewed me

I don't think she even tried to find someone to take over her practice ( and I have to pay for chart to be transferred) I called places yesterday, now I have to apply and sit on a wait list. I want a Male Dr this time, last 2 have been women and they leave as soon as their husbands transfer or retire.
A friend is going to ask her Dr to take me.
It was a warm and caring letter Doctor sent " Dear Patient" grrrrrrrr

interesting that they are making you pay to transfer your medical records ?? they never charged me..I went on a waiting list too but it only lasted 3 weeks and then they called me for an interview..

hope your friend gets you an "in" with their doctor :)

According to what I found they can charge for the transfer of info because it's not covered by MSP but they cannot demand payment before the records are sent. The cost can vary according to how complex the file is.

Makes me wonder though in this day and age of digital records just how difficult is the process.

Unfortunate. My wife went through a very similar situation. For me .. I just want to fire my doctor .. But options are very
Limited and that folks is where they have us by the curlies. The entire medical system is totally and so money driven.
