Ontario is shutting down for 14 days...nothing open...not even gas stations..

Ford is shutting down non-essential work places ... highly doubt gas stations will be on the list. How are truckers, doctors, nurses, and people working in one of the workplaces remaining open going to get to and from stores or work if Ford deems gas stations non-essential?

As for EB Games, despite their proclamation that they are an essential service/business, they'll be shut down pdq.

maybe you need a government pass to use certain businesses depending on the individual....which probably should be the case....this to protect the actual people manning such businesses

Panic buying would go absolutely crazy the moment complete shutdown is ever announced.

Do you have a link that confirms gas stations will be on the list of closures?

^^^Ford will unveil the workplaces/businesses declared non-essential tomorrow. Doubt if gas stations will be on the list.

Yeah, I know the announcement is tomorrow. But the OP is claiming that everything will be closed including gas stations, so I'm just curious if he has a leaked copy of the list.

Preliminary list according to the media:

Ontario’s list of essential businesses that are not required to close is long and extensive.

Here is a summary of what is covered:

— Supply chain operations: Any business that allows others to operate by supplying, “systems or services, including processing, packaging, distribution, delivery and maintenance.”

— Retail operations that supply essentials: This includes grocery stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, pet food and animal supplies operations, beer, wine and liquor stores and alcohol producers as well as cannabis retailers and producers.

Transportation essentials: Gas stations, diesel, propane and heating fuel providers including providers of motor vehicle, aircraft and water/marine craft fuels, auto-supply, auto and motor-vehicle-repair.

— Other retail: Everything from hardware stores to office supply operations and safety supply stores that sell work clothes and personal protective equipment.

— Hospitality: Restaurants remain exempt from closure if they provide take-out or delivery options. Hotels, motels and student residences are also exempt.

— Maintenance: Cleaning services, sprinkler, HVAC, escalator and elevator technicians. Building engineers, property management services, plumbers, electricians and security services.

— Media and telecommunications: Newspapers, radio and TV operations. Businesses providing or supporting IT services and telecommunications services such as phone, internet, radio, cell phones.

–Transportation: Taxis or other such services, trucking services that facilitate trade, businesses that provide materials and services for the operation, maintenance and safety of transportation systems including road, transit, rail, air and marine.

— Manufacturing: Businesses that extract, manufacture, process and distribute goods, products, equipment and materials, including businesses that support and facilitate the two-way movement of essential goods within integrated North American and global supply chains.

— Agriculture: Businesses that farm, harvest, process, manufacture, produce or distribute food as well as those that support the agricultural sector.

— Construction: Most construction projects in the province will continue including those dealing with health care, transportation, industrial and residential sectors.

— Finance: The Toronto Stock Exchange, the banking sector, insurance, employee pension and benefit plans will all continue.

— Health care: This includes hospitals, doctors offices, labs, manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers of pharmaceutical products and medical supplies.

Quite the list of what is going to remain open for business. Guess we'll see how accurate this list is in a few hours time.

Well yes, it goes without saying that the NDP is out to lunch but you are going to have to be more specific. Which NDP and Medical Officer are you referring to? You mention NDP but then go on to talk about Ontario and Ford and the ensuing discussion is all regarding Ontario.

Is this about Horgan and his merry band of idiots? If so, why is this in the Canada forum and not the BC forum?

I doubt it too, particularly since 99% of gas stations these days are self serve. Not much danger to employees in that regard. Closing the door to junk food buyers, at those stations that have convenience stores, may make some sense though, as people can still obtain food items from actual food stores.

What's essential depends on where you are. Some people are in the middle of a move or relocation will need hotels truckers will need the same. In Ontario if a place is open its drive thru only, in places where truck drivers are plenty you may be able to enter but you need to take it out.
Problem is that hotels are shutting down and if not they are limitting amount of rooms available.
Even if you have an RV (an ideal place to self isolate), you can't even enter parks for fear people will socialize over a campfire or just come together.
Gas stations, grocery stores, and home improvement stores combined sell it all. Most anything else you could get online I guess.

So that's just a couple of examples and certain there many many more, so to say to shut it all down tight is really not taking much into consideration

Too many people have the mindset that what ever is good enough for them should apply to everyone else. There are a lot of frontline workers out there, not just medical staff that rely on a lot of things that people think should be shut down.

There will be another round of closures coming, and soon. Within the next day, the closure of all but the most essential stores will be announced and new decrees on social distancing will be given teeth. Another weekend of people partying in close proximity and hiking in massive groups will not be allowed.

Do you have a source for this, or is this just your opinion?
