It has been mentioned he bought police cars at auction - nothing unusual there.

Wortman had recently bought two used police cars -- which McCormack described as "mountie cars" -- and kept them behind a clinic where he worked, he told the station.

I'm listening to Charles Adler right now interviewing Peter MacKay. He's saying that the the guy had a violent past and was banned from owning fire arms.

He received a conditional discharge on an assault charge back in 2002. I haven't read anything yet about a ban of firearms.

Kudos to the vet for treating the dog free of charge.

Goulet, a 54-year-old from Shubenacadie, N.S., loved her German shepherd, Ginger, and Ellie, a 10-year-old chihuahua.
A Facebook post from David Butler on Monday shows he and his wife, Amelia, curled up with the dogs after "loss, sadness, trauma and devastation" spread through their family.

Ginger was shot twice Sunday, Butler wrote, but the RCMP "took extra care" and sent her to the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic in Dartmouth.

The veterinarians there helped treat two gunshot wounds — one in her face and one directly through her mid-back.
Butler said the vet completed all procedures free of charge "and provided the best care imaginable. Which we are extremely grateful for."

Amazing the pets survived and will end up with loving family members. Not surprised the vets did it free of charge but community members were stepping up to cover the costs as well.

I fully expect someone could be in lot of hot water for not activating emergency alert about active shooter.
Just maybe some of those killed would have made different choices.

That will be part of the investigation and I'm sure in hindsight there will be a lot of people feeling really guilty and remorseful and that's unfortunate when all were doing the best they could in the moment.

Leather was asked twice to explain why the province’s alert system, which experts say uses radio, television and cellular networks to warn residents of serious threats to health and safety, including “active law enforcement responses,” wasn’t used.

“We have relied on (Twitter) because of the instantaneous manner that we can communicate. We have thousands of followers in Nova Scotia and felt that it was a superior way to communicate this ongoing threat,” he said.

Relying on Twitter alone was a bad call, still trying to understand the logic behind that one. Not everyone is monitoring social media regularly, and especially not at midnight, when it sounds like this guy started on his rampage.

Nick Beaton said that shortly before his wife died, the couple had heard about the rampage happening several kilometres away in Portapique, N.S.

“Me and Kristen laid in bed the night before and watched him in Portapique, reigning terror on people,” he said. “We woke up (Sunday) morning and we just assumed it was over.”

That morning, Kristen was on her way to the home of “one of her favourite clients,” Beaton said. “If I had known he was on the loose, I would have not let my wife leave the house that day.”
