a friend of mine packs now after getting the scare of his life when he was out walking south of Calgary with his dog, and they were set upon by a pack of coyotes, with almost no warning. The only reason he is alive right now is that his dog fought them off and gave him time to get back to his house and get his guns. The dog lived thankfully but the vet had to extract several coyote teeth from the dog's head. He now packs a gun and a knife while walking after that experience.
Its happened to me a few times. Not attacked but stalked ....could see eyes glowing in the dim moonlight. Nothing like that feeling of being hunted and knowing that even though I could see the porch light only 1000ft away, running would have got me killed. The urge to bolt for it is hard to fight when you are that close yet so far from the safety of the house. Every time I went to visit my neighbour(s) after that, I had a shotgun in my hand if I walked over.
I'm sure yodi attacks are very rare, but out of any creature that would do it cats aside- they would. Wolves- never.
Some may view my politically incorrect opinions as harsh and may be offended by them. Some think political correctness will be our undoing.

Was he barred? I understood a 9 month ban but that was years ago.
He was banned - as a condition of an assault conviction - for owning firearms. An assault conviction will severely hamper one's ability to obtain a PAL. As for still being barred from owning firearms - he has no PAL, ergo by default he's prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. That said - you're nitpicking. By every account, the laws on the books already said this guy should not have had guns nor impersonated a police officer. Yet somehow he did both - and for some reason, Trudeau wants to implement stricter gun laws in face of the facts that the already-adequate laws didn't prevent this atrocity from happening.

Recall the perfect storm of the murderous teenagers? No one believed the were capable? Different vehicle descriptions? Being let go from a road block because a release of their description wasn't done for a few hours after?
Well is this not the perfect storm too? Guy setting fires, murdering people, driving a police cruiser look-a-like, wearing a uniform? Because having a perfect replica of a police cruiser and using the police cruiser for a murderous rampage is hair splitting for illegality and the police had NO idea he had one until the abused girlfriend was able to get out of the woods safely. You know, instead of being alerted earlier as "this is odd, we think you should know." But anyways, this is Canada's new crime legacy regardless of how one splits hairs.

About that replica police cruiser,
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/n ... li=AAggFp5
<snip>On Friday, Campbell said police are still trying to determine where Wortmain obtained the mock vehicle he used in the rampage. RCMP are also looking for anyone who may have assisted Wortman or who can provide information about how he obtained his vehicles or pieces of authentic uniform.
Campbell said the RCMP have located the source of the materials used to produce the decals that were affixed to the side of Wortman’s look-alike police cruiser. They have not, however, determined who printed the decals or if someone assisted in adding them to the vehicle.<snip>
If it was
legal to create a decal to make a vehicle look like a police cruiser, as long as it was not used to impersonate a police cruiser, you'd think no one would have trouble stepping forward.
I think a lot of fine hair splitting has to be done to justify having a replica police cruiser.

Thanks for posting that Queen. I am glad that the RCMP have finally come out with a timeline. I was wondering a couple of things, including how the other mountie was injured, and what exactly happened in the encounter with the RCMP person Heidi Stevenson, such that he ended up killing her and driving away in a Chevy Tracker. Sounds like he was able to get the Tracker off of a poor schmuck who stopped to help. You have to wonder if he was injured in any way by the head on collision with Stevenson's cruiser, I don't see how he wasn't. I am also wondering if the head-on collision was a deliberate act by Stevenson to stop Wortman? If so, she is incredibly brave, just amazing that she would do that.

Really? The RCMP doesn't know what happens to their vehicles after they're decommissioned? I mean, it's somewhat common knowledge - and certainly would be common knowledge for RCMP. The vehicles show up on GCSurplus (Gov't auction website) for sale to the highest bidder. There's always former police-use vehicles appearing on there. Everything from former cruisers and SUVs to former ghost cars.
(Note: Nothing there right now - they stripped all auctions the moment Covid shutdowns hit).
Here's one example listing, taken through the magic of the Wayback machine:
Most of the emergency lights can be had off AliExpress. Not the same light bar I've seen in photos, but here's an example of a stealth light bar and control panel: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32832028316.html - given enough time and determination, one could find either a reasonable facsimile of what's actually used or indeed the manufacturer(s) of the raw parts to assemble one's own of a reasonable facsimile.
Decals - It's not a far stretch for someone to find a manufacturer in China (via Alibaba even), send some artwork, and order some samples/proofs with the false promise of a contract to outfit a fleet of vehicles.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Cst should be awarded a bravery medal!!
Why did her partner not assist her??
The only thing the RCMP did right, was get rid of the SCUM.

It's the RCMP, they don't have "partners" they're all one person cars. Something else that cost Mounties their lives.

her partner was in a different car. He was shot and disabled by Wortman, when he drove up to his driver's side window and shot him in cold blood. Not sure how he lived. The RCMP officer was of course blind-sided because he wasn't expecting an RCMP cruiser to drive up and shoot him. No one had warned him to be on the look-out. He thought it was Stevenson, not Wortman, in the cruiser.

And this is precisely why having a replica RCMP cruiser should be illegal in Canada. Not "oh it's legal if it's in the garage" but out right ILLEGAL.

That would be a co-worker ? My definition of a partner is someone working in the same police car.
