It’s better to get a good mouser out of the SPCA. My son got a good mouser and his rat problem disappeared.

We do our own trapping - man they are getting big.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

Big snap traps. I use a dog kibble, hole drilled through it, and tied with fishing line to the bait tray. Should check the sensitivity as a couple of times the bait is gone but no rat. Did catch a mouse in one and nearly cut it in half...

I have used raw bacon, tucked tightly into the trigger, so that the rat would have to work at getting it out.

oldtruckers ultra high tech redneck rodent trap.
It takes 4 minutes to build, it works 24/7 and a jar of peanut butter will last a long time.

You mean like this one? A larger diameter and deeper bucket is needed sometimes.
Yes, it is a full size shovel in the pic just for size ref. It's the size of a small cat...That was a big dinner that day

Yup, they are getting big. Maybe we are getting the oldest ones now - hopefully female.

This was a long time ago now but when in the Navy and in port in places like Danang, Honk Kong and Subic Bay (Phillipines)
the rat guards put on our shore lines were 6' across. Twice the size as when in port in the US.
There were so many under the piers in some places that the Marine guard dogs would not venture there.
I have caught several around our place in the lower Mission. The last one was a pretty good size. At least 6" not counting the tail.
Nothing in my traps for at least 3 weeks now.
