O'Keefe rangelands for sale. NOT in ALR.
Room for another massive development. It's zoned inside the city of Vernon and isn't ALR. 2,310 acres just waiting to be urban sprawled with guess who paying for the increased services to and for this land. Got $29 million?

Maybe it s time to let the Mayor and council know that this piece of Vernon is not for sale or re-development. Maybe they should think of using the money they want on a Cultural and Recreation centre to ensure that we and our children and this valuable piece of history to always visit.
I think the council should have a mail out ballot to see what the public would like to see done with this piece of land.
If they do sell it then who ever buys it should be required to pay for any and all utilities that the city has put in free and maybe this would prevent buyers from looking at the property.
But wait this council just wants to sell everything so they can say they balanced budgets, that they will not even update in this pandemic.

Rangelands aren't a tourist attraction - it's next to the Rise.

Fer shure. The developer will pay for all the streets and services inside those developments. You and I will pay for all the street widening and four laning, sewer (including expansion of the sewage plant), water (including expansion of water treatment), policing, fire, and everything else that will grow in size. Seems fair.

There seems to be a basic lack of understanding in this thread of both DCC's and private property.

tabubil's post sounded like they thought it was O'Keefe Ranch, not the land up above Bella Vista.

Would be an awesome space for an animal/rescue sanctuary.

Talk about Paving History....
They boast about it being from the mid 1800s...developers care less about history...

It's not exactly a hot spot of tourism and history buffs. Be better off to put it to good use.

Whoever owns the land has every right to sell it. I don't know where people get off trying to control other's property all the time.
Why would developers care about a historic rangeland? They are a business. It's up to the City to make sure they pay their share, but you can't prevent people from selling their own property.
