Heck yeah I'm lazy. But I'm also educated and have a skill set so I don't need to work those jobs.

Are those farmers actually going to treat their Canadian workers decently?
Will they offer the Canadian workers traveling safe clean accommodations like they are supposed to with TFW's?
How about fair pay?
Besides correct me if I am wrong, but the farmers can still bring in workers.

This is the most likely cause for their issues.

No, it is not a case of instantly bringing them in. It takes a while to get the paperwork in order.
It is now a matter of relying on all of those non-existent "hard working Canadians"

And record shortage of farm workers.
Put these together to understand how much Canadian workers would like to do actual labour.
If this isn't an argument for TFWs I don't know what is.
Then you don't know.
Why would I work a farm job and exempt myself from overtime hours and bust my rear for minimum wage when I could get a job at a warehouse for 20 a hour, with overtime, with benefits. Both jobs require that I can lift 25 pounds and that I'm breathing.
Capitalism says that if your can find workers you need to raise the wages. A lack of workers is not the cue to start insulting others and calling them lazy.
Are you lazy because YOU won't mow my lawn all summer for minimum wage? Obviously right?
Ignorance is bliss.

Throw in a 6 pack of beer or a good meal at the end of the day, and you will probably have a lineup of young people at your door.

Do it as an experiment, you'll be disappointed.

Re: Examples of TFW's being exploited
I would just like to hear an argument on why farm workers (Canadian or TFW) are exempt from overtime. The restaurant industry is just as demanding in terms of inflexible demand on man-hours. If a big group comes in before close the kitchen is staying until they leave. They get overtime.
Why do farms need to side-skirt labour laws?
In Alberta it's even worse - farm workers have less safety standards that regular workers and they let children work.
What's the the next step? It's obviously a regression in terms of pay and working standards. First they did away with overtime and safety laws and then they started bringing in Mexicans. What next?
Can we start bringing in Mexican children to pick fruit and completely do-away with WBC while were at it?
I'll help out the pro TFW crowd :
"Only lazy Canadians need safety laws!" and "Kids need a good work ethic anyways (because they are lazy)!"

Re: Examples of TFW's being exploited
But, if you treat some restaurant employees like that you would be foolish to eat anything they brought you.
Plus their boss knows an unhappy employee can sure damage their business reputation pretty quickly.
Good example, while driving the tour buses I have often called ahead and made arrangements for a late meal due to detours or accidents.
I usually have a good idea which restaurants will stay open or even open up just for us.
It almost seems silly not to make arrangements for 50 people at premium prices even with short notice.

It’s not that these jobs were not offered to Canadians.

I'm not sure why this case puts the TFW program in a different light.the truth wrote:https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/3 ... ers#320403

There is a difference between offering a job to Canadians first and actually hiring Canadians first.BC Landlord wrote:It’s not that these jobs were not offered to Canadians.
These companies don't want to hire anyone who has government agencies standing up for their rights.
Congrats to those workers for getting whats rightfully owed to them.
I hope the employer learned his lesson.

Well, what about people who are homeless and living in camps? Wouldn't they like to live on a farm and be actually productive? Away from streets, and drug scene? Fresh air, good nutrition, and physical labour that solves a lot of mental problems? No?
