Okanagan NDP supporters
I have lived in the Okanagan for 40+ years and never once have the NDP come close to electing representation from the NDP party in my ridings. This time around the 3 Liberals will probably be voted back in.
So to all the NDP voters, what if instead of voting NDP who will never have a hope in hell of being elected in the Okanagan, we vote for the Conservatives or if no Conservatives running in your riding as the case for West Side Kelowna we vote for the independent. If enough NDP voters did this we could in effect unseat the 3 Liberals who think they are a shoe in and reduce the number of Liberals seats ensuring our end goal of electing a Majority NDP government.
Just throwing that out there.

But the Conservatives believe in most of the abuses that the NDP wants to rid us of. Like senior care facilities that place profits ahead of patient care. Wasn't this demonstrated in the Covid outbreaks in seniors' housing this year. Many of these facilities are merely investments by the wealthy and the residents in some of these homes are treated worse than livestock.
Vote Conservative? Absolutely never. I learned socialism in Saskatchewan during the doctors' strike there in 1962 and the right wing showed their evil side then and they continue to do so now. Lesson learned.

The Cons wouldn't be the government and no matter what the 3 Okanagan ridings will be rightwing regardles. Voting NDp they will still be 3 right wing ridings. But in the end doing electing Con MLA's will make 3 less Lib seat and greatly up the possibilities of having a majority NDP government. After all that is what we as NDPers want.bob vernon wrote:But the Conservatives believe in most of the abuses that the NDP wants to rid us of. Just look how well Saskatchewan is doing now that the NDP has been kicked to the curb. You can actually enter the province on blacktop rather than weeds growing through the asphalt.bob vernon wrote:But the Conservatives believe in most of the abuses that the NDP wants to rid us of. Re: Okanagan NDP supporters
I think you have to look realistically at the voters in the Okanagan. My thoughts are that conservative minded voters will see a vote for someone actually carrying a Conservative banner as a wasted vote and will likely lean towards the Liberal incumbents. Voters seeking change for whatever reason will likely go with the NDP as they do have a better chance than the fringe candidates. There is also the thought that public approval for the NDP is riding high given their successful pandemic management, and that the current spike in cases can be written off on those same fringe elements pushing “my right not to wear a mask” or “the pandemic is a hoax” messages. I for one, think the NDP will succeed in winning the election, perhaps even a majority and given that, a strong Liberal opposition would be essential to keep them in check.

Re: Okanagan NDP supporters
Realistically the NDP has never elected an MLA in the Kelowna area for at least the 40+ years I have been living here. I don't have any expectations they will this time either. The likelihood of the NDP getting a majority Province-wide is pretty good, but in politics I don't take anything for granted.fluffy wrote:I think you have to look realistically at the voters in the Okanagan. The Okanagan most likely will elect the three Liberal incumbents into the Liberals party that really isn't all Liberal. Wouldn't someone who has Conservative idealogy rather elect someone who better represents them.
I know it is a long shot and a strategy a little late to the party. But my theory combining willing NDP voters and real Concervative voters and some disgruntled disatisfied Liberal voters all voted for a Concervative candidate that would serve two purposes, One for the NDP, aiding to ensure an NDP majority and 2, elect better representation for those Conservative voters. At the same time the Libs/Cons would still be the opposition.

I’m not quite sure I’m reading you correctly, you want to convince NDP supporters to shift to the opposite end of the political spectrum with three weeks to go until the election? Are there Conservative candidates with any experience currently running?

Re: Okanagan NDP supporters
There is a better chance of NDP voters voting Green than them ever voting Conservative.
The BC Liberals are really a compilation of Socred and Reform-Alliance Conservatives, they are NOT true Liberals since Gordy Campbell took it over.

I'm not your enemy. We have a difference of opinion, and I can live with that. Can you?

The Greens in the Okanagan are just as unlikely to elect an MLA as the NDP and won't unseat a Liberal. Voting for the conservatives could have a chance to unseat a Liberal incumbent thereby helping to elect less Liberals and giving the NDP a better chance of getting a majority.
I look at it as an NDP voter as not necessarily voting for a Conservative but in a roundabout way voting FOR a majority NDP government. Making an otherwise usless vote in the Okanagan for the NDP who will never win actually accomplish something.

What a lame attempt to split the vote.
Too bad the N.D.P. can't offer a balanced platform that appeals to centrist voters, and get elected on their own merits.
No, the N.D.P. supporters try advocating vote splitting instead.
Has the N.D.P. already thrown in the towel?

Were it not for disenchanted Liberal voters thinking they were doing the right thing, by parking their votes with the Greens to send their party a message, after Weaver specifically stated he would support the party who got a plurality of votes, the NDP wouldn't even have gotten in, the Liberals would have gotten a majority, and the Greens most likely wouldn't have gotten three members elected.
That was the outcome of vote splitting and you can bet Liberal supporters won't be making that mistake twice.
Go ahead fill your boots then and "care less" all you wish.maple leaf wrote:I really could care less what anyone from the Liberals negatively thinks about this idea.Pete Podoski wrote:What a lame attempt to split the vote.

Most amusing that you think you're the first to come up with a vote splitting idea.

Another little hitch in that plan is that of the Vernon, Penticton, and three Kelowna ridings, Vernon is the only one that fielded a Conservative candidate, and nominations are closed.

West Kelowna has an independent running and there has over the years been much talk on these forums about how we all should vote for independents. Would be better than reelecting useless ben again.fluffy wrote:Another little hitch in that plan is that of the Vernon, Penticton, and three Kelowna ridings, Vernon is the only one that fielded a Conservative candidate, and nominations are closed.
