Yup, and every single dollar he makes, he'll be paying some of it to this poor fella. For the rest of his life. And any inheritance he gets - he'll be handing it over.

It's not just about what he has right now, it's about what he'll have for the next few decades.

Scumbag.

A Kamloops man has been ordered to pay nearly $7 million to cover the health-care costs and lost opportunities of a teenager he nearly beat to death with a baseball bat for trespassing into his yard.

Jessie Simpson was 18 years old and weighed about 135 pounds when he wandered into Kristopher Teichreib's yard on June 19, 2016, after celebrating his high school graduation with a group of friends.

Teichrieb, who was 39 and weighed 220 pounds, had been concerned with a rash of thefts in the neighbourhood.

According to a B.C. Supreme Court judgment, the bigger man punched and kicked Simpson before beating him with a bat badly enough to cause injuries an RCMP officer described as "the worst he had ever seen, including cases where the victim was beaten to death."

That poor boy.

You're right; he'll never see the money.

The article said he was celebrating grad with friends, but didn't mention them again. Had he left them? If not, why didn't they intervene?

One thing to get judgement, another to collect. Probably won’t see a dime. Guy will claim bankruptcy and never pay a cent.

Such a brutal assault. Especially bad that the guy was like 16 times bigger than the kid. Throw the book at him!

That has been the Federal Liberal culture for decades. Defend your property and you WILL get charged because Liberals are on the side of the criminal. Liberal criminals have rights.
There are plenty of cases where you could make your point.
This, however, is not one of them. He wasn’t "defending his property". He nearly beat to death a kid who wandered on his property and tried to leave.

So yeah, I guess you are right,,,,,under the Liberals, criminals have rights and the guy who felt he was defending his property is the criminal who got off way too easy.

People would be very careful of not wandering onto private property at 4am if Canada had 'stand your ground' laws, and if it did, this probably wouldn't have happened.
Pretty hard to "wander" onto private property. As a rural property owner, where RCMP response would be pretty slow to non-existent,( with the exception of possible bloodbath) I would be concerned about any uninvited guests. Certainly in the middle of the nite.

I certainly don't condone violence, especially if the perpetrator was making an exit. However, if I felt threatened, for myself or family members, it is what it is. But again, not if the dude (or dudette) was attempting to flee. Although I would hate dealing with insurance, material objects are replaceable..

I somewhat agree with the "stand your ground" concept though...very rarely is a trespasser in the night a good thing.

Trying to think of something profound, and full of wisdom to place here...any suggestions?

What do people expect ?

Get so sick of theft and crime in your neighbourhood, City.

39 calls in 12 months, never a show of anything ever being done.
No one being held accountable.
Left to ones own devices.

Comes a time to make a move and make a difference, or fold and wither.

This dood just raged too much, lost it ! All the pent up frustrations let loose.
and went overboard.
Product of a deteriorating environment.

Poor kid certainly crossed the wrong path.

I question why 39 calls showed a perceived zero net result ?

Perhaps he was a nutcase and they considered him a nuisance caller?

And if the kid was in possession of a back pack full of other peoples belongings would dood
be just a guilty ?

I figure if I was being stolen from several times a year off my property, and my neighbours
were also, I would have a bit more of a hair trigger towards strangers on my property, especially
in the middle of the night.

removed Whataboutism for this violent attack is uncalled for. and the Answer is Yes, still would be in jail for chasing down a minor and beating him to the point of brain damage.

Even if he was (though at this point you're just making up scenarios), it's not the right thing to do.

The guy is a *bleep* and has serious mental problems if he rages on a teenager.

Seems some people have been blessed with never have been violated by
a burglary or theft of their personal property, let alone an ongoing and
seemingly continual acts of criminal activities against them, personally.

Left with little to no recourse or had anyone held accountable through a
failure of legal response and/or justice system.

I wish those people good luck on their continued good fortune of not being
put in such position of violation.

Even if it means they are blinded to only one side of the equation of how
things may go down.

I suspect a craftier ($$$) lawyer could have changed the outcome of
this particular case.

I have but I never thought "Oh, I want to put a complete stranger who just happens to be in backyard into coma by chasing him down the street and beating him into bloody pulp".

This is what physopaths do, not victims of property crime.

The guy wasn't stealing anything. He just trespassed.
